With the strict security in place since 2001 is it still possible to get a bomb aboard an aircraft without inside help?

Absolutely, probably wouldn't even be very hard:

"In all 21 airports tested, no machine, no swab, no screener anywhere stopped the bomb materials from getting through," reports MSNBC. "Even when investigators deliberately triggered extra screening of bags, no one discovered the materials."
 
Well that makes me feel a lot safer knowing all the money we invest on airport security is paying dividends....
