Hi there!

My dad is a lifetime qantas club member and he and my mum are travelling to Europe in August.

Whats the best route to travel from Brisbane to London in economy, to gain lounge access?

I know that flying Qantas economy, gives them access to Emirates Dubai lounge but I've heard its very busy and not that great.

Is it possible to fly through Singapore or Hong Kong (and gain use of the Qantas lounges) with Qantas and a codeshare after the stopover?

Thanks for your help in advance

Upgraded Qantas lounge in HKG is excellent.

Staying overnight at the Regal Airport Hotel attached to International terminal is tops too.

QF ticket in EK Metal. A380 all the way. Easy. Nice airport and nice lounge in DXB. Could swap to QF A380 out of DXB if wanted.

If you want QF codes all the way to LHR without having to go via MEL or SYD, the only option is using EK to DXB then either QF1/9 or a 2nd EK operated flight on to LHR.
Otherwise, you can get QF to SIN or HKG (and NRT from august) and connect onto LHR with BA, CX or JL.

Thanks for all your replies!

So (as I feared), the only way to get lounge access on the stopover flying economy BNE-LHR for Qantas Club member is via DXB.

If they fly via SIN or HKG its useless because they won't be able to use the Qantas lounges as the onward flight to LHR isn't QF.

Bugger.....

Just found out Dad has about 500,000 Qantas FF points sitting around!

He had no idea, quote "No I never look because they are usually worthless"

Before you do anything else check immediately if he has had any activity on the account in the last 18 months because if not the points will disappear into cyberspace and they really will be worthless.

What they could do is book an upgradeable economy class fare then use some of those points to request an upgrade to business class (click on the fare rules which will tell you if the fare is eligible for upgrade or not). Compare the lowest upgradeable fare with the premium economy fare just in case there's a sale.

You can only use points to upgrade on QF metal ie QF operated flights not QF codeshare flights so they'd need to be booked on either QF1 or QF2 SYD/LHR/SYD or QF9 MEL/LHR/MEL.

Alternatively purchase an economy fare on QF BNE/HKG/BNE & do a business class award on CX HKG/LHR/HKG. Or buy an economy fare BNE/NRT/BNE then use QF points for travel on BA NRT/LHR/NRT in J or Y.

There's just so many options for them. I think you need to step in and do the bookings for them or before you know they'll have walked into the nearest Flight Centre and booked a non-refundable, non-upgradeable fare.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Flying out via DXB is the only way to get QC access in the stopover outbound to LHR; flying back via SIN or HKG would provide you QC access since your next onward flight would be on QF, HOWEVER that would mean no access at LHR since you would be flying BA/CX to the stopover point.

If your final destination is north of London - and were desperate to use the SIN QC on the outbound - you could book the QF codeshare on the AY HEL flight and AY into MAN, but then there would be no lounge access in HEL nor in MAN or HEL on the return (but could be useful for a mixed BNE-SIN-HEL(QF Codeshare)-MAN//LHR-DXB-BNE(QF Codeshare). That way, only HEL would miss out.

Alternatively 1. QF Codeshare on EK to/from DXB

Alternatively 2. Burn those points on a J redemption!!

Regards,

BD
