I have been a lurker on the forums for a few years, have learnt quiet a bit and have managed to use what i have learnt to get a few small benefits when traveling. :)

All of my travel is self funded holidays so i don't think i will ever gain any status with airlines, but i plan to use my points to make traveling a little more comfortable when able. Looking forward to being a more active contributor on the forums.

Cheers,
Leigh

Welcome aboard l31gh.

Another way to get more involved is to attend AFF social events. We have a few in various locations around the country and new members are always welcome.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That should be my line. Indeed, if you're based in Melbourne (as per a recent request for lounge access) there is a Champagne night coming up in February that promises to be good fun.

Thanks, ill check out the events they sound fun! I am based in Bendigo, so close enough to Melbourne :)

Welcome aboard! As a fellow self funded leisure traveller I'm going to say status isn't as far away as one might think (if you're so inclined). Otherwise smart use of points can make travel more enjoyable. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Well I am flying MEL-DXB-FCO AMS-DXB-MEL in May so that should put me over half way to silver. I managed to secure extra legroom seats in top deck economy on the A380 MEL-DBX with points which I am pretty excited about as it is my first time on an A380 (3 A380 flights on this trip).
