Hi Everyone

I need to plan the office Melbourne Cup event and I have a rough budget of $25 a bottle.

Does anyone have any favourites for this price range? I have no idea about sparkling as I don't generally drink cheap sparkling.

In terms of white, I was thinking the Huia Pinot Gris (might be a stretch for $25) or the Catalina Sounds Sav Blanc. Any others I should think of?

Happy to hear your suggestions!

Thanks heaps everyone

For sparkling - Jansz NV - $24 at DM.
For ssb - push up for Cloudy Bay at $28, or Shaw&Smith at $24

Can't offer any sparkling suggestions, but in terms of a good white...try the Wahu Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough...beats more expensive SB's like Oyster Bay hands down IMHO...and you can get it around $10/bottle by the dozen at Vintage Cellars...you on't be dissappointed.

Last year, I was in Vintage Cellars when a QF hostess came into the shop, straight from the airport, asking about a fantastic french champagne she had tried the previous night in Sydney.

The shop only had 1 and half cases left, which she immediately purchased and then ordered another 3 cases.

Now I always make sure I have this champagne in my grog fridge and the staff at my local Vintage Cellars tell me it is the number 1 selling sparkling.

You office colleagues will NOT be disappointed.

Highly recommended

I find Yellow Tail Bubbles (don't confuse with Yellowglen) is a surprisingly nice drop at around $10. Also Deutz Marlborough Cuvee Brut is an great drop at around $20.

Coles Liquorland has 30% off fizz.
Croser is just under $20.

My vote for the Shaw & Smith. On sale at DM's at the moment sub $24.

Why go to Dan Murphy when you can get a box of 12 Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc from Epiqure delivered to your door for ONLY $275.88 (that is $22.99 a bottle) and pick up yourself a tidy 6 frequent flyer points per $ spent if you buy before the 24th - 1650 points per box?! Sounds like a good deal to me! ;)

I may or may not have purchased myself 12 yesterday!!

I expect something from you Red Roo and Qantas since I have joined your advertising bandwagon!! :p :D

Agree. Epicure have some great deals

At this price point I like Cloudy Bay Sav Blanc ( my favourite Cloudy Bay is Te Koko but nowhere close to that price point)
Catalina Sounds is a decent drop but can be had under the price if you look.
Phillip Shaw Sav Blanc from Orange is delightful and also in that bracket
It's a little difficult to get a reasonable sparkling in that range but I always enjoy a glass or two of the Cloudy Bay Pelorus

Apologies for the definite kiwi slant but I think they do have a great range :)

oh - I got all excited thinking it was champagne! but alas.

There is a banner ad right next to it for Grandin. Steer clear of that stuff. Awful :)

Nothing like a nice bottle of Spumante to kick off any party. It of course needs to be re-gifted from an Italian, so swing past and I'll drag out about 20 bottles I have sitting in the garage

The Brown Brothers sparkling is always a good all-rounder, and their Prosecco is really nice too. The Dal Zotto Prosecco is even nicer, all around the $20 mark.
