probably straight fwd for most, however first time I have some in my possesion,

am thinking of giving it to my elderly relative who are flying to Japan on jetstar shortly,

is it value to use them on these sort of flights,
is there a better way of using them?

im assuming its the same as getting a business class lounge access to virtually any major city?

The best lounge to use these passes right now is probably at LHR, but they do expire so any use is better than none! There are several restrictions around them too, so it would be helpful to know where your relative's flights from/to?

They may be limited by flying Jetstar - for example at NRT, JQ flights leave from a different terminal to the Qantas lounge so access isn't possible. Similarly if their JQ flight departs from Cairns, where the lounge in the international terminal is only "associated" rather than operated by Qantas, complimentary passes can't be used.

A workaround to this is collecting boarding passes from international and walking over to use the QC in domestic, but it's a 300m walk each way and involves clearing security so I can't see this working for an elderly person.

ok ,sorry I got my wires mixed up, the flight to japan was a bit later,

they are doing melbourne to Hawaii return on jetstart shortly!

can I just assume that a qantas lounge pass is just access to most major business class lounges in major cities?
so food, drinks and a shower if avaiaible, a good place to be on stop overs or pre departure so you can relax and not sit on the waiting room bench!

I have this image in my head that they are highly desirable as ive seen them on sale on various forums and gumtree and they seem ot sell pretty quickly.

OK, they would be able to use passes at either the Melbourne or Honolulu international business lounges.

Your description of a lounge is fair - at a Qantas operated lounge you'll normally get a reasonable feed, unlimited drinks, and most have a shower. I'd say they are a much nicer place to spend time waiting than in an airport terminal, particularly for longer layovers, however I wouldn't go as far as saying they are highly desirable. First lounges perhaps a difference story, where many have spas, a la carte dining, fancy drinks etc. Business lounges are simply a little bit of comfort and convenience.

Am I correct in thinking lounge passes cannot be used on QF domestic flights if booked with the EK flight number?

why thank you for your reply,
I checkd your link and found the list of allthe lounges which was my next question!

the traveller has also indicated that they when they do go to japan, on the way back they have a 5 hr stop over in domesitc, so can I assume the qantas pass can be used here and is probably the best to use it on a long stop over?

Correct. QF/JQ flight numbers only.

Yep, but keep in mind those marked as "Associated Lounges" (like below) are not eligible for use with Qantas passes.

There are also some port specific restrictions on the passes - for example MEL Dom QC and SIN have capacity restrictions in place at the moment, PER T4 Transit and LAX TBIT are specifically excluded, etc.

That sounds like a decent way to use it.
