Mrs Albatross is going to visit a friend in UK next May/June and I'd like to make sure she gets the best value out of her KF miles. She will fly out of Brisbane with Heathrow being the final UK port. We have a good supply of SQ Krisflyer points. She has flexibility with travel dates

I'd appreciate thoughts on travel options. My thoughts so far:

SQ J redemption with SQ BNE-SIN-BNE (combination of Saver & Standard). Quick flight, low hassles and great service.

SQ *A F redemption with SQ BNE-SIN (J) >> SQ SIN-FRA (F) >> LH FRA-LHR (J)

The point redemptions are similar in value. The total travel time is about 3 hours longer via FRA.

I had considered if there was any availability in TG for F from BNE-BKK-LHR. Using ANA tool I couldn't see any options for this and perhaps F will again be unavailable ex-BNE by mid next year.

My thoughts are that I can somehow optimise the *A F redemption to increase the percentage of F travel.

Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or enhancements?

Alby, you need to know when SQ are dumping off the 747 as that will be the end of our points travel in First.
All I have heard so far is that the A380 has had teething problems and SQ delayed deliveries.
If the deliveries resume for SQ it will be J for us as they do not release seats in First on their A380 for points.
Do they run the all J on A340 to LHR as that is a lovely product that MrsA would appreciate?
Because it is for MrsA if you see F go click and click for two without hesitation!

1/ I believe the tip is that 747 will be there for at least another 18 months.

2/ In the meantime if you have a booked F seat on it and it is upgraded to the A380 SQ practice is that they honour the booking = win for that flight (though loss for future F savers).

Thanks for the thoughts cove & lovetravellingoz.

On the return there are three options for departure out of FRA.

SQ25: If she is on SQ 747 F Saver flight it departs FRA at 12:35. This would backtrack to her having to depart LHR on the connecting flight ~9am, her arriving at LHR ~ 7am and her leaving her friends country house about 5am.

SQ2007 (LH778): This flight departs 21:55 allowing an easier day. Question will be if I can redeem KF miles for the flight as a codeshare or as part of the *A fare. I'm assuming LH first will be comparable.

The later flight also puts her back into BNE at first light, which is an easier way to readjust to the local time zone.

Anyone had any experiences on redeeming KF miles on SQ codeshares?

Always consider an airport hotel so they can walk in fresh either at FRA or LHR rather than have them rushing.
Consider it an investment in the future.

.

I had my daughter fly F on SQ from FRA in July as I could not get J for her.

As we were in Paris, rather than rushing an early morning flight or train I had her use the train the afternoon prior and stay nearby.

There is an Airport Hotel, but there are also several hotels with Shuttle buses which are nearby. But check the journey time as not all are close.

I booked my daughter into:
Hotel Park Inn Frankfurt Airport booked via Booking.com: 86000+ hotels worldwide. Book your hotel now! at a bargain rate.

At airport, and she is only 19;

  • Arrived 3 hours early since she was nearby and had stayed overnight to have breakfast and use the internet in the lounge.
  • First passengers must not normally check in that early for some reason (plus as it turned out there were only 4 pax) and so only Economy was open. As my daughter is only 19 (and the queue was not too big) she just queued up...but on reaching the check-in desk the agent apologised profusely, got up and shut the queue off with a rope and instructed everyone there to go and queue in another line.
  • At the gate lounge went to access the priority queue, only to find it full of economy passengers and when this time she asked about being given priority after seeing another much older First Passenger just walk up and go through had the attendant refuse to believe that she was flying First Class and gave her no priority!!!!
  • On the plane she had great service though..and moreso as there were only 4 pax with her in 1B.
