Hello

I have preexisting travel plans which will see me arrive in Sinagapore on the evening of 29th December 2010.

I have been invited to a friend's wedding in Las Vegas on New Year's Day.

Can anyone suggest the best way to get from Singapore to LAX? I would consider returning to Perth for the flight but not sure if I would have enough time to achieve this.

I would prefer to stick with oneworld as it would be nice to finally attain Gold. Premium economy would be nice too :)

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Rob

One alternative could be CX to HKG then YVR and then AA to LAX.

Another alternative could be CX to NRT via HKG and then AA to LAX.

In premium economy you have three shortish options (AFAIK), Thai Airways via BKK, JAL via Tokyo and Qantas via SYD/MEL/BNE ... or the long way round via Europe.

Best oneworld options are Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong or JAL via Tokyo - although noting JAL doesn't connect and involves airport transfer (over 9 hours).

Good place to start looking is Your Online Travel Agency - Cheap Travel Deals - ZUJI - Singapore or Airfares.com.sg - Online Travel Store - Flights / AirTickets / Hotels / Cruises / Packages / Natas Travel Fair / however do check out airline websites as they often have specials that aren't shown on the travel agent sites.

The other alternative if you don't mind investing a bit of time is looking at flying to an alternate location and picking up a cheap business class fare from there (such as KL, Manila, Bangkok, Taipei ...) You never know what is on offer until you look!

If you're happy to fly on *A, there is a direct flight on Singapore Airlines.

Otherwise, the cheap *A options are via NRT or HKG on United or Singapore.

You might mix/match *A and Oneworld, depending on availability, and price. e.g. United to NRT, AA to LAS.

102k Krisflyer Miles + 74.40 SGD taxes + 247.60 SGD carrier surcharges for the 15h30min flight in Business on SQ38.

If you left on the 30th at 4:30pm, you'd arrive on the 30th at 4pm. Likewise if you left on the 31st.

NB, SQ12 (via NRT) only takes 16h20min...

NB, if you have some UA miles, it is only 10k from SIN to NRT (in Economy).

And you could use QFF miles to go NRT-LAX. 72k QFF in Business on AA170 (9h35) on 31st Dec.

Expanding on the above:

30Dec10 UA804 SIN-NRT 0720-1450 = 20k UA Standard Award + 20.60 USD taxes (Economy)

NB, available on 31 Dec too, but changing airlines & PNRs with a short layover isn't a good idea.

31Dec10 AA170 NRT-LAX 1635-0910 = 72k QFF Business Award + taxes

Of course, if you have Krisflyer miles:

30Dec10 SQ2 SIN-xx_-SFO 1750-1845 = 29,750 Krisflyer miles + 74.40 SGD + 240.70 SGD (in Economy)
31Dec10 SQ12 SIN-NRT-LAX 0945-1115 = 29,750 Krisflyer miles + 98.90 SGD + 240.70 SGD (in Economy)

NB, you can fly SQ12 in First for 76.5k Krisflyer miles.

Another example where the SQ availability is easier and cheaper than Oneworld...

Hi all

Thanks for the suggestions, it has really opened my eyes.

I forgot to mention that I have plenty of QFF points but little with any other program.

After much searching, I decide on flying LCC to BKK so I could get premium economy on TG for not much more than economy on CX. Ok I will miss out on Qantas SC sbut at least I will be more comfortable ;)

Cheers
Rob

There is a CX flight from SIN to BKK which used to be cheap as (about $150SGD). Might be an option for your QF points.
