Idea for this post shamelessly stolen from Markis10. :D

Another thread opened my eyes to the amazing value that can be had with JASAs if you know where to look. It had never occurred to me to do a status run for WP until Markis10 showed me how I could pick up 480 SCs for a mere 96,000 points and $380 (2 x ADL-TSV return trips via Brisbane). That would put me on WP with several SCs to spare.

I would love to know what other top value JASAs are out there, especially if there are any good international ones. So far, it looks like TSV is the bargain JASA destination, e.g.:

ADL-TSV via BNE Ret - 48,000 pts + $179 gets 240 SCs (and you earn 6000 pts, so in reality 42,000 pts used)
HBA-TSV via MEL & BNE Ret - 72,000 pts + $241 gets 320 SCs (and 8000 pts = 64,000 pts used)

Anyone else have any tips for best value? I haven't actually decided whether WP is worth the status run, but I have some spare time over the NY break and it might be fun to spend a couple of days on planes.

You have missed the Hobart (not so) express for 100 SC:

And my personal favourite in terms of getting points back for 140 SC, compare that to the cost of a classic award BNE_DRW or even a classic award positioning flight to TSV coupled with a JASA ;):

You could almost do one of those round Australia type redemptions with JASA's interspersed with a Spirit of Tasmania here & a Indian Pacific there!

I have to double check my booking but I think this is close:

MEL - KGI (via PER) return approx 81,000 plus $100 for 240sc

TSV-BNE-DRW can be done vv the same day, too.

The best one I've found nets 280 SC for 47,000 points. Positioning flights are not cheap though

In case you are wondering the best value is had by going backwards to go forewards, typical QF :D

Adelaide - Canberra via Sydney return. Doable in an afternoon. 48000 points plus about $70 - 200SC

Also doable via Melbourne, but only 160SC that way.

I have ambitions of doing ADL-SYD-CBR-MEL-HBA-MEL-CBR-SYD-ADL for about 400SC and 95000 points. I am just waiting for a double status credits to take advantage. ;)

I love the TSV-DRW one, but the problem is I've never been able to see any reasonable JASAs ex DRW. Any ideas?

You can ge a JASA BNE/LAX for around 90,000 points then you could purchase a LAX/BNE/LAX which is cheaper than ex Australia so you've always got an unused BNE/LAX up your sleeve.

It does come up in reverse at times, with one qf flight a day there is not much choice DRW_BNE.

Seriously? BNE/LAX for 90K?

Better to do AKL-BNE-LAX on 4 June for 84k + $268.27 NZD. Extra 80 SCs, and it costs less.

Like I said - the best deal are there if you go backwards, I was just responding to the quote with a date where there is availability BNE_LAX.

I have no numbers in front of me so excuse the lack of accounting.

AKL-MEL-BNE-TSV is still a great one. 200 SC, also cash payment departing NZ is <$100.

One I was looking at is ASP-PER, have done this on QantasLink before. With a JASA you can go ASP-MEL-SYD-PER or ASP-SYD-MEL-PER. Interestingly one way gets more milage the other gets more status credits. Better points value than TSV-AKL but does require a bit of cash though. Definitely going backwards! (also takes nearly as long as a flight to Europe :) )

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

36000 Points for 200 SC is not as good as the Hobart Express which provides the same for 32000, and I cannot find an option for less than 132K ex AKL which result in a $1000+ cash payment.
