I thought I'd open up a thread for "best" use of a taxi.

What's the weirdest or most ingenious trip you've done in a taxi?

I thought of this topic on the weekend when I had to move a large chandelier in a 1m box. Didn't quite fit in our 4wd. Drove home, then to thrifty (only one located nearby and open until 2pm). Only had full moving truck : $250. Not ideal when the store would charge $70 for delivery (one day the following week - bit of a pita to have to be at home during gone day). Then drove to a friends place (they have a larger 4wd - measured up, no go).

Finally it came to me - Maxi Taxi. Fitted easily, total meter fare $18 (have the driver $20 as he wasn't having a busy afternoon and I could see on the app he'd come a bit of a way to get me).

I'm sure others have better taxi stories than this one, but I was pleased to get it home same day at a fraction of the delivery price.

Please feel free to share your story.

Needed parts sent from melbourne to wodonga ASAP, put them in a taxi. The driver thought it was Christmas!

I was in Napier (Hawke's Bay, NZ) with two other friends at the end of 2011 and we wanted to visit some wineries. The local tour companies wanted $70 per person for the privilege of sitting in a bus all afternoon (ie: $210 total).

We went up to a taxi driver and offered him $200 for a few hours to take us around to various wineries.

Being just the three of us we had a much better experience, spent time with winemakers and had an absolutely splendid afternoon. The driver ended up being good company, and ended up having an enjoyable afternoon also!

Not a taxi... But a friend moved a mattress via public bus. He also used maxi taxis for various other boxes of stuff.

Oh and also used taxis as a courier service. Would hand package to driver, advise the address and who to deliver to. Cheaper and quicker than a courier. All paid via cabcharge.

Many moons ago on one of my first international work-related trips, got to check-in then paused and I said "Oh. This is an international flight. I need my passport!".

No time to go back home to get it (MEL airport to SE suburbs!). Fortunately flat-mate was still at home, so she located the passport while I ordered a taxi.

My passport arrived with about 20 minutes until check-in closure...

i was in Athens and went to the bus depot to get a 3 hour bus to Patra to catch a 12 hour Ferry to Italy - but the next bus to Patra was full, and the one after will have gotten us to the port too late....so my friend and i paid a taxi driver EU200 to drive us to Patra...had a nice chat along the way, he showed us his village, told us stories of his childhood, and it was just more comfortable all-round

the alternative would have meant forfeiting our pre-purchased ferry ticket and probably paying for a flight to Italy the next day to catch up with our itinerary

locally, i've heard that you can call a taxi company with a maccas order and they'll bring it to you...never tried it myself but i would lol if i were witness to it
