Best points reward for a one-off purchase

I have started buying Myer gift cards, and got one 15c/l fuel offer which I will use for points so will earn about 700 points. Unfortunately the fuel offer finished on Monday and I haven't had an EDR offer for nearly 2 weeks, so it may be option 3 with just a little extra.

Use vouchers at Wow to purchase wish/dick smith vouchers - EDR points

You would be using wish gift cards to buy wish gift cards... and buying wish gift cards in general does not give points nor fuel vouchers.

Well I took the plunge with option 3. And for two weeks I had no offers from EDR, so it is pretty much just points for the $1800. I bought the cards over a few days, incase an offer came in, and combined them with my regular piecemeal shopping. I did pick up one 15c voucher, though.

Shopping: 1957, Fuel: 863, CC: 2865
Total points: 6685

I have one and am on the way to a second Myer $20 voucher as well, so I am pretty happy with the total gain. Worth it for a one off purchase IMO, although as there is no Myer near me it probably won't be replicated for any day to day shopping.

Thanks for the various suggestions. It seems there is scope to increase the haul or decrease the cost slightly. Now I just have to wait for the specially configured laptop to arrive.

Postscript: It seems one of the EDR transactions has been credited twice. Noice.

Wanted to revive this thread as I am going to be purchasing a 2013 MacBook Air x2 soon as replacements for older models.

I am thinking to get them from David jones with my DJ AMEX platinum on a student discount and then get GST back.. I don't see the newer models online on their website though.

Last year I used velocity global estore to make the purchase and they had 6 points per $ on offer but I spent 6 months just trying to get the points into my account.

Any other ideas? Other cards I have are: ANZ QF platinum AMEX/VISA, AMEX QF ultimate, DJ AMEX platinum, HSBC QF platinum..

Thanks straitman.

Supplementary question: Will a purchase from Myer made with vouchers still contain sufficient information for a TRS and ATO claim?

From the TRS site.

  • gift cards/vouchers (although goods purchased with gift cards/vouchers are eligible for a refund subject to all TRS requirements being met)

Ok i'll bite, since i enjoy these thought exercises.

Is your DJ plat amex earning QFF or DJMR points?
NFI how much the MBA costs, but say 2k each = 4k.

I'll assume your DJ plat amex earns QFF, and makes 3 QFF PPD spent at DJ.

Basic solution

10% student discount = $3,600 = 10,800 QFF, then TRS for actual financial outlay of ~$3,272

Better solution

Buy $3,600 worth of DJ giftcards from woolies and swipe your EDR card. = 8,100 (@ 2.25ppd on your DJ amex) + 3,570 (EDR) = 11,670 QFF, then spend those GC's at DJs with your student discount and TRS to get the same financial outlay of $3272 as above, but with 800 odd more points.

Even better solution (if you value 1 QFF point less than 4 cents)

Buy $3,600 worth of wish cards @ 5% off (various sources, most common being entertainment book) = $180 discount. + 5,130 QFF points if the source accepts your anz amex, or 3,420 points if it doesnt and you use your HSBC.

Turn those $3600 wish cards into DJ's cards = 3570 QFF (EDR)

Buy MBAs from DJ's with GC's & student discount for 3.6k, TRS for 1/11th of the $3.6k you paid. Total outlay of $3092. Earn 8,700 QFF (or 6,990 if they don't take amex)

Best solution

If you're lucky enough to still be able to buy wish cards from the membergiftcards (and not the everydaygiftcard) website then make that 11,265 QFF points :)

Plus cherries

Also, why DJ"s? unless there's a reason you cannot buy it from myer for the same student pricing, then do that instead and also get 7,200 Myer one points.

Happy, bonus extra time!

Big W this weekend have 10% off everything (includes myer/dj gift cards)
$3078 = $3240 worth of wish cards = $3,600 worth of DJ/Myer. No edr points though :(
I'll leave it as an exercise for you to work out how much this ends up costing/points haul. But it wins all of the above.

Edit :

See my other thread for inspiration.
