I have a cruise next year that departs from Venice and sails for 21 days all over eventually terminating at Barcelona. So what is our best flight options to avoid the huge mark ups on one way flights, would prefer to stick with one world but it may nt be the best option.

Can't you just buy an open jaw ticket? Aus - Venice then Barcelona - Aus?

Off the top of my head, EK flies to both. Have you looked at an EK open jaw trip?

Emirates does fly to both cities, although currently only once a week to Venice (on Saturdays). That would be the most efficient and easiest journey time wise, but probably not the most cost effective. Having a quick look at random dates, the Emirates option was about $500 more per person in Economy that taking a two stop journey with Singapore Airlines/Lufthansa. That doesn't take into account any extra hotel nights you might have to spend in Venice if the arrival day isn't suitable.

You shouldn't need to buy a stand alone one way fare as everything can be ticketed into Venice and out of Barcelona.

PM me if you'd like to know more specifics.

For OneWorld openjaw tickets:

BA: Transiting through heathrow
Finnair: Another one to check out! I'm sure there will be plenty of flight transitting out of HEL to / from the said ports
CX: Personally, if would buy something like Oz - Milan on CX and then train from Milan to Venice and a cheapie flight from Barcelona to Milan

Finnair / CX have the benefit of avoiding the expensive LHR taxes.

Edit: Actually Finnair to Venice (AY771) is only available during certain seasons...

I havent heard of Openjaw. I depart on a Saturday so a Saturday flight may be to late, would be nice to avoid LHR but not essential.

Open jaw is when you arrive and depart from a different city. E.g. the following
If you are really adamant to flying into VCE and avoiding LHR, then best to speak to a travel agent re your plan i think...
You can play around the airline's websites and choose "multi-city" or something to that effect

Actually, looking at the timetable for Emirates on a wider range of dates, their frequency can be more than once a week to Venice, so they may still be your best option. Depends on your dates.

Finnair via Helsinki would get my vote, good airline that will honour your QF status perks (eg extra baggage) and great airport to transfer in. Just depends on seasonal flights I guess.
