Hi
I'm travelling from NTL to CHC for work purposes in a few weeks. I have status gold with Virgin, and wanted to know what the best options are for travelling with Virgin or its partners, to maximise status credits, and to experience the lounges as I haven't flown to NZ before, haven't flown with Air New Zealand or been to any of their lounges.
The are a few options, either via BNE or MEL or direct from Sydney, with either Pacific Blue, or Air New Zealand. Which one of these will (or should) get the maximum status points (assuming the same booking class) ? Does flying NTL-BNE (or MEL), and then BNE (or MEL)-CHC get counted as two flights, or are the points awarded as though it was a direct NTL-CHC flight?

Thanks

You should earn as a city pair in Zone 3 as fare as SCs go.

Well i live at NTL, and there is no NZ direct flights. You have 2 option to either fly on the E190 to BNE then get a connecting flight, or a 737 to Melbourne. For quicker journey i would go to Brisbane as there is more NZ flight connections then MEL.

The OP seems very aware there are no direct flights. As I read the question is about how DJ credit status based on the city pairs regardless of the number of flights. I really don't know the answer to that. But at a guess if 2 flights were booked then it should give status for both flights. i.e. NTL-BNE/MEL, BNE/MEL-CHC. If you search and book NTL-CHC then I'd expect status as per that route regardless of connections as Markis10 stated.
