A question that is likely to generate some debate and hopefully some recommendations.

I need to travel to the UK - LHR, LGW, MAN, STN in the next 2 weeks for family reasons - the F, J and Y+ pricing is a little step at this time so I am looking at Economy. I have burnt the majority of my points on other trips so awards and upgrades are not likely.
I am QF WP, not going to get to P1 for the year so not tied to QF, OW is probably preferred due to lounge access but better seat!, food, drinks are also up there. As I am traveling whY 30 hours is a max flight time, preference 23-26 hours
Would appreciate your considered recommendations and whY
Cheers
Andy

For the best onboard experience, surely Singapore Airlines is the way to go?

If you prefer Oneworld, Japan Airlines has a very good economy product. Qatar Airways is also very decent.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Qatar.
Still get QF F lounge on departure.

A380 upper deck economy in 2-4-2 layout is free with one world ruby and above. Extra storage bins (but can't lean on window to sleep - too awkward in window seat). It's probably the last area to fill up given it's reserved for status pax.

I've flown economy on their 772 and on a very full return flight had a spare middle seat and also on a busy LHR-DOH flight. Also have QF plat and that extra space means the world to me if flying long haul economy. Economy service food, amenity kit etc are all awesome IMO. Wifi is good and not expensive or limited with data. If you have a choice on the Doha - UK leg the A350 in economy is a comfortable plane as well. I would happily fly it long haul.

I like transiting Doha. Super easy airport. Lounge access is ok, nothing flash but food was the same but presented differently from Al Mourjan. Maybe less options as well. You can splurge for better lounge if you like or pay to use gym, pool facilities if time allows.

I think JAL has the best economy out there in terms of space. CX will offer free exit rows.

Indeed, but it's difficult to book JAL at a reasonable price two weeks out.

Personally, I'd go QR if it's not on the 787. At any rate, the OP should jump onto ITA Matrix and see what's on offer.

I'll go against the grain and recommend QF/EK. As a Platinum I find that I'm able to get reasonably good seats that I'm not able to get as easily with other carriers or that I'd need to spend extra money.

Dear all
Thank you for your comments, it was an interesting read. I ended up with QF1 on the way there and EK414 (QF#) on the way back. Reasonable seat on both flights as a WP as JohnK suggested. Moved to a unused row for parts of the flights and a couple of beers helped. I liked the short hop to SIN and DXB for the first legs and dealt with the longer legs with drinks and sleeps. Slightly underwhelmed by DXB, B gates, First lounge, I thought it would have been more but was B$&$#ed by then anyway. Flew out of MAN and sort shelter from the disorganised chaos in the EK lounge which was reasonable and good views of the tarmac, but the food could have been better.
Thanks for your help Ax>
