Stephen Creedy Editor/Asia-Pacific bureau chief, AirlineRatings.com has tweeted that Ben Sandilands the blogger in chief of Crikey's plane_talking blog has passed away. The last blog entry was 20 October.

His comments with respect to aviation and the Australian variety in particular will be missed.

I never thought Ben was impartial. He had grudges against certain airlines etc.

But R.I.P Ben!

Don't we all, sometimes we don't even need a reason. Hah.

I hadn't seen anything from BS for a while so a bit out of touch with his latest opinions.

He certainly had his hobby horses (quite a few of them!) but many of his contributions were valuable. He'll be missed.

He certainly did have some strongly held views but he will indeed be missed.
For some reason I always thought he was a lot younger (maybe due to the name association I had with that odious radio “personality” ).

Also, I think he also must have used a byline photo from lets say, many years ago.

The odious one was whom I thought the OP had mentioned. I just saw the " ... Sandilands reported to have died" and thought that was interesting enough to read the post.
