Good morning all,

Quick questions from an AFF newbie here. My apologies if they've been asked/answered many times over, or if this thread is in the wrong subforum.

I'm travelling from DRW - AKL very shortly, via BNE.

Outbound from DRW is a JQ redeye leaving at some ungodly hour and getting in on a similar time (JQ673 iirc).

I have QP access - what should I do to maximise my time in the lounge - can I do OLCI and then get the BP from the service desk and go straight to the lounge? (As it's a very early flight I'd rather get to the lounge a few hours early and have a nap or few drinks etc)

Secondly, can JQ staff check me in for the QF flight from BNE-AKL + give me my BP? Again wanting to get into lounge early and not wait in the concouse until regular checkin opens.

And last, but not least - if I do seat selection for the QF flights and pay accordingly, if better seats open up around T-80 do I get charged again by QF (or do I just get charged/pay once)?

Again, I apologise if these are basic questions and have been answered many times before, however I am a Kiwi and therefore under the impression I am permitted (expected?) to run riot, commit crime, have little common sense, ergo don't want to dissapoint anyone!

Cheers,

CD

Jetstar don't interline bags to/from domestic Jetstar Australian flights. It is not clear if you have checked in bags or not. If you do have checked bags they will be checked through to BNE you'll have to collect them from domestic baggage claim and transfer them to international terminal yourself. You'll then have to wait until check in start accepting bags for your flight, normally 3 or 3.5 hours before departure.

If you have carry on only you'll be able to online check in and print your boarding pass. That will get you through immigration and air side, but at some stage someone from Qantas will have to sight your passport before you board. Or you can check in normally at a counter and as you don't have bags you can check in earlier than 3 hours ok.

As an alternative it might be possible to get access to the domestic Qantas lounge at BNE, although it might be a bit noisy. Just describe your situation to the desk staff.

A lot of it depends on the timings of the flights. When does your flight to AKL leave?

The JQ website answers all re interline, assuming you are on the one ticket. Flight Connections | Jetstar. Your bags will go all the way to AKL from DRW.
You mention you are on a redeye from DRW. From memory, DJ have the only redeye for Brisneyland, departing at 1.25am, JQ departing at sparrows by DRW standards for BNE at 6.40. Has the JQ schedule changed?

That is not what that webpage you linked to says. It says Jetstar will interline between "Jetstar International to and from Qantas International". As the OP is on Jetstar domestic to Qantas International they will not be able to interline.

Fair point - I looked at the interline list and missed the key word. So Chasing Daylight should answer the question at checkin - AKL. Apparently Menzies (JQ Checkin) often check people all the way through to other destinations. I've not tried it myself, and wouldn't count on it, but you never know your luck in DRW. My suggestion would be have the passport ready and assume you can do formalities in DRW. A smile works wonders in DTown.

Oops - to clarify I should state I am travelling with carryon only. Flights are on the same PNR, booked through QF website.

Thankyou for the replies - and will try my luck with h2g's suggestions

As you are travelling with HLO I would just do OLCI with both airlines. You will need to call QF & ask them for your "JQ confo number" which will noted somewhere in your QF pnr as you will need your JQ pnr to checkin on the JQ website. I think you may be able to checkin 48 hours prior with JQ so this should be enough time to get a decent seat ie not a middle seat.

As you booked through the QF website use your QF booking reference to do OLCI for your QF BNE/AKL flight 24 hours prior. I wouldn't bother paying the $20.00 for advance seat selection. As with JQ, by doing OLCI you should still be able to get a reasonable selection of seats at this time.

As richie9x has already mentioned, JQ domestic will not interline to anyone including themselves whether it be to a domestic or an international flight. They would not be able to give you a QF boarding pass for the BNE/AKL flight anyway so I would not even bother asking them.

Assuming you've been able to OLCI for JQ, when you arrive at the airport just head straight through security & up to the QF Club. I would call the QP to find out their opening hours on the day you're travelling because if there's no QF829 DRW/SYD operating that day the lounge won't be open.

JQ will in some circumstances interline bags from JQ international flights to other airlines so while they can do this DRW JQ SIN YY xx_ they won't do it for JQ domestic flights.
