I never said otherwise.

In fact I warned people early on that it'd eventually end and there was a good chance they would remove you as a customer.
Well of course many people have been saying this for a very long time. Of course we had listened we would have missed out on a lot.

Well my account is now gone.

My only regret is not getting on this train sooner. I read about it when it first started and thought it wouldn't last so didn't bother. It was only when someone said at the start of the year that it was still going that I got on board. Got a nice little haul in that time!

So long and thanks for all the fish BW!

It seems reasonably clear that the accounts that have (or did have) 2 cards attached are the ones being shut. No issues on my single card accounts. Personally i thought getting the 2nd was pushing it too far.

Yes i believe this is the key. Single card account at 50/day seem ok. I personally felt the 'trick' to get 2 was just pushing it too far

You are neglecting to mention you did have two cards each account but were forced to cancel. Its not the same situation as those who have only ever had 1

The evidence here strongly supports the theory single card accounts (which can only do 50 a day) have survived the cull

Craiglm WAS running 2 cards per account for a period of time. That's why he was shut down .

It seems this has been clearly disproven.

Aussie, did you have a single card? Have you received a notice?

Me + Partner running 50 x 1c through Telstra for more then 1 year, one card each. I received the letter today dated 22 August, close date of 5 September. SWMBO hasn't received the letter yet but I can only assume that its on its way as well.

They wouldn't tell me on the phone the reason for closure.
After email correspondence this is what I received:

"Thank you for your email.
The circumstances that led to the closure of your account was the unusual use of your account to make multiple consecutive payment transactions at a very low value, some at one cent each, for payments that would ordinarily be paid by one transaction.
Your Qantas Transaction Account was closed under the relevant clauses in our Investment & Transaction Accounts terms and conditions.
With this in mind, the Bank has provided you a 14 day period to open a new facility with another financial institution before the account is closed by us.
Kind Regards
Customer Relations"

What's the legal opinion on whether we should be receiving points for August for accounts being closed on 5 September? I think the T&Cs said points won't be earned in the month of account closure - which would suggest that we should get points for August (when they were earned), even though they post in September, but probably no points for any transactions 1-5 September.

Yes I have a single card, no notice.

At the time I made those comments it was the 2 card accounts being shut down, the next round of single card accounts happened a couple of days later.

"... the Bank has provided you a 14 day period to open a new facility ..." That's a lie.

Has anyone received the letter 14 days before the closure date?

In my case, it's two letters 8 days before closure and one letter 7 days before closure!

I wonder what the FOS would have to say about that statement?

Push their buttons! I dare you ;)

Alas, it is game over for me too. Letter received today.
Nice while it lasted tho!

Do we know of an alternative saving account which earns points, either from the balance or transactions or both like this one was?

I need to close my account by Sept 5 like most others here & looking for a suitable alternative.

Cheers

For points on balance (interest style) you've got Qudos, I believe it's a savings rather than transaction account though.

Probably better off earning real interest though...

You won't need to FOS that.

An internal complaint will get them paid. Given they are not claiming abuse of account etc they have no grounds to refuse.

Even if they claimed abuse of account I wouldn't accept it. I accept they can close our accounts, but if it was abuse then they would have done so sooner especially since most of us have had interactions with them since starting it.

FOS will have them extend it. Let BW know you're submitting a FOS complaint for not giving the full 14 days.

I doubt it's a legal requirement but even when I worked @ CBA we always gave 14 days from the day the customer was notified so there must be some kind of guideline/FOS ruling somewhere.

Bankwest has the Bankwest Rewards Account haha. It's not QFF and the points are poor value but I have one of those as well.

Still no letter for me.

Do you pay bill 50x per day with that account Cephalopod , thinking about open that account after the heat on this one die down . End of the day i still have $60 Telstra bill need to pay monthly .

You won't need to FOS that.

An internal complaint will get them paid.
Indeed, the first thing FOS will ask is if you have utilised the internal dispute resolution service and generally wont touch your complaint until you have. This can be a pain as they have a fair time to address internal complaints and some push it out to the limit!

How about the day before the account is due to be closed, everyone transfer MOST of their BW credit balance to somewhere else and leave the BW account say $0.01 in CREDIT.
Let BW post you a cheque for $0.01 for the refund of the credit balance.

I once received a bank cheque from NAB for $0.02 ( I still have it, was thinking about getting it framed as it is STALE now)
May make you feel a bit better?
