Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

A friend ordered a second card recently via online banking messaging and was told the first card would be cancelled after the second card was received. Boy were they efficient. The first card stopped working the day after the second card was first used.

Another friend phoned to get a second card and was asked to call once they received it, so the first card could be cancelled, and was warned that the higher amount would still need to be deposited if they didn't call. Both still work, though it's only been a few days, so the first card may still be cancelled.

Keep us updated! A co worker asked by phone (twice!) To upgrade, but each time told will be cancelled.

Then decided not to go ahead with it!

Is hopefully trying in branch today!

I think it's odd, that for a Platinum card you need to deposit $4,000 each month and for the standard card $2,000 each month, to avoid the account keeping fee. But that fee is $6 each month, regardless of which card you have.

My experience has been that requesting new cards online or over the phone will almost always result in old cards being cancelled (sometimes immediately before you have even received the new card). When requesting the new card in a branch I have never had the old card cancelled. I think perhaps the in branch staff are not as well trained to cancel old cards as the call centre or Internet chat staff. That said, I have 4 active cards and prefer not to risk having them cancelled by requesting any more. My wife only has 1 currently so may get her another one.

Yes, I have only ever used this one. I do find it needs at least 10 minutes for a repeat of the same transaction (account number and amount) but 1c, 2c, 3c etc can be done following each other. A month or so ago they stopped requiring the 10 minute pause but last week that requirement came back. They are obviously changing their system because out of the blue they have started to send me text messages for payments received for the mobile phone account. These came in batches anytime up to 24 hours later.

That could get really annoying pretty quickly. Maybe thats the idea!

My partner & I ordered additional cards over the phone late last year, and we were asked to call to cancel the old cards. We never did. The old cards are still working (hard).

I suspect it depends more on the person you're talking to.

When did you last get an additional card?

What was the reason you gave for ordering a new card?

I tried my luck today in a branch.. asked to get a new "standard" card because my current one was with a relative. Hoping they would not cancel the current one.
Rang up to double check - they said that the system automatically cancels the old card and you can't be issued with two cards (of the same "type") to the same account.
So I'm SOL I think. Will try tomorrow morning anyway to see if it still works.

Last got an additional card in November. It was just at the point where should a request for a new one result in the others being canceled it would be a real pain. Too much to lose if I had to start the process of acquiring more cards again. I am satisfied with 1,000pts per day (plus my wife's pts).

Tried it this morning, the old one doesn't work. Maybe their system has been *enhanced*. :(

Platinum to standard is to reduce the deposit amount ($2K per month, not $4K) and standard to platinum is because you want a platinum card - obvious I would have thought.

I can't believe you asked for the same type of card and gave the reason as because I lent it to a relative. I'm surprised they didn't cancel the card you gave to your relative, immediately.

Thanks, I'd love to know what the limit now is, but I'm not prepared to risk finding out. If someone else would, I'd be most grateful.;)
