Just thought I'd let everyone know that my upgrade went through..

Now a different issue.. The Qantas check in guy didn't check my bags all the way through to Miami (yes different tickets but still with AA and I gave him my confirmation email)
didnt realise I didn't have two boarding passes until too late.

So does anyone know if there's a transfer desk at LAX or will I have to go check in?!

Your bags may indeed have been checked though to MIA, they just did not print a BP. (Check the bag tag stickers they put on you BP/Folder).

When you get to LAX, you pass immigration, then pick up your bags and do customs.

When you pick up your bags check to see if they are labelled for MIA, if so you just redeposit them at the indicated place.

[-]If not, you will need to lug them to T4 and recheck. [/-] It seem you can now get new BP's & get new bag tags for re-check bags at the TBIT transfer area.

The quickest way to get to T4 is Walk. With bags look for lifts to the upper (departures) level in the arrivals hall, use these then head right along the sidewalk and you will curve around to the left before you arrive at T4. keep going past the first doors to premium check-in (as you are SG, you have access).

Once you land in LAX after collecting your bags before you exit the terminal look for the bag drop/transfer signs (you should be heading right up a corridor) and you can get your boarding passes, bags tagged and drop your bags there!

No need to lug your bags to T4!!

Then just exit turn right (if landing at TBIT) and walk the 5 mins to T4 and go straight through to security. No waiting in check in lines at T4 :)

...
Seems that has changed from what I posted - and for the better.

You can always print AA boarding passes in the QF J/F lounge using AA.com and your AA PNR.

Yes, the TBIT transfer desks had a make-over about 2 yrs ago with a number of counters for the various airlines. Very friendly and helpful staff who can issue BPs and re-tag luggage.
