Baggage on award flights

I am looking at LHR-DXB-PER, Business award, Emirates metal. But they only have available LHR-DXB Business and DXB-PER Economy with 2 hours DXB, therefore baggage will be checked at LHR through to PER..... I called Qantas to enquire about baggage allowance as I will have between 30kg and 40kg .Enquiry to find out how it works with a split class flight like that. They told me that I would only have 30kg for the whole journey. This doesnt seem right, I reckon I should have 40kg for the first leg and possibly have to pay excess for the second leg. Anyone with similar experience?

With IATA 302, your baggage allowance will be for the "Most Significant Carrier" - in your case thr first intercontinental segment - I.e. DXB-SYD. is the allowance that applies.

But isnt the first continental stage in this case LHR-DXB? Most significant carrier is Emirates as they are the carrier for both segments.

I'm no expert (so stop reading now!), but, ignoring the intercontinental bit, the term "most significant" interpreted as "longest" was my assumption.

And in these days of "EK cost-savings", I wouldn't be surprised they enforce a "longest segment" trumps type of rule (esp. if its in their interest).

However, as I'm no expert, I won't venture into how one could arrange to pay for excess, or if that is even possible.

NB: What does the EK MMB list the allowance as?
