HI everyone,

Hope this post is in the right location and that someone maybe able to answer my question.

Im travelling to hawaii in December on Jetstar star Class. Im planning to do some scuba diving over in hawaii and will be taking my own gear. Does anyone know if my dive gear will have to be included in my 30kg of baggage allowance or can this be addition on top.

According to the jetstar web site below-

Bulky items (maximum 1.9 metres for A320, A321 or B737 aircraft, maximum 2.77 metres for A330 aircraft), including but not limited to bicycles, surfboards, skis, golf clubs, snow boards, may be included within the allowance, subject to space availability.

Does the above mean, if i have normal luggage weighing 25KG and my dive bag weighting 10kg. they may not charge me the extra 5kg.

Sorry if this question sounds silly, but just wanted to see if im going to be up for excess baggage.

cheers.

In StarClass , you are indeed allowed 30Kg of baggage allowance in total

Any dive gear you wish to take has to be within that total limit

In my experience, Jetstar are very strict with baggage allowances.

In the example you give above you would be charged for 5kg of excess baggage.

remember to use your cabin baggage allowance too...

2 x 10kg bags providing one is a suit bag

From the website:

Cabin Baggage limits are strictly applied. Each Passenger (except infants not occupying an aircraft seat) is permitted 1 main item of Cabin Baggage and 1 other small item, with a total combined weight of up to 10kg for Jetstar (JQ) and Jetstar Asia (3K/VF) or 7kg Jetstar Pacific (BL). If you are travelling with an infant, you may also carry on infant food for consumption inflight. If a seat has been booked for an infant, an approved infant car seat is permitted.
Each Passenger travelling on a StarClass fare is permitted 1 additional main item of Cabin Baggage provided that only one item may be a suit pack or garment bag, provided that each main item does not exceed 10kg, with a total combined Cabin Baggage weight of up to 20kg.

What it means is that you can have say:
  • two rollaboards or
  • one rollaboard and one suit pack/garment bag
up to 10Kg each.

You can't have two suit packs or two garment bags.

Hi ReadyRocket,

Essentially, as long as it is not a dangerous good, the dive equipment may be carried as part of the 30kg allowance.

If you, as a StarClass passenger have total baggage weight of 35kg, this means there is 5kg excess. You may pre-purchase excess baggage at a discount, ($60AUD for 5kg at the call centre and available in multiple of 5kg blocks up to a max of 20kg extra) or you may pay for this at the airport for $20AUD per kilo x 5kg = $100.

Hope that answers everything.
