This week I flew Heathrow to Bangalore on BA119. I reserved 11K (2nd row of J, window, backwards facing) a few weeks back and was quite happy with that, but as always, I jokingly asked if they were upgrading anyone to first, to which I was told that it was quite a light flight, but if anyone was to be upgraded, I stood a fair shot because of my status, and she joked with me that I had a pretty good seat anyway.
Anyway, I thought no more of it, and got aboard, most people turned right, one or two turned left, and I sat in 11K. We took off, and a little while after the seatbelt sign turned off, the purser came to talk to the guy next to me who was having trouble with his IFE system. He offered to move him but said the only seats available were F seats, but apologised because it was only a business service, he went on to explain that they were running a 3 class service, but on a 4 class aircraft. To my shock the guy next to me said he was happy where he was and didn't want to move, and preferred that they reset his system!
A couple of points from this:
1. Guy next to me was clearly out of his mind!
2. Check your seat options close to departure day!
3. I'm a little annoyed that when I asked at check-in, the lady didn't offer me this option as clearly there were free seats, and I had just asked!
Anyway, I hope this possibly helps someone else get a seat at the pointy end on BA.
Cheers,
