As far as I can see, this only affects short-haul awards on AA and AS?

Still very poor to make changes like this without notice.

This only affects bookings via BA - you can still book AA flights online using QR Avios following this award chart (stolen from the AFF article on redeeming QR Avios) - much better value. You'd have to call up for AS redemptions though.
