After having them on hold for almost the entire allowable 72 hour period, we finally took the plunge last night and confirmed our AAdavantage award tickets to Japan over this year's Christmas period. Scored J on CX, departing 14th Dec, returning the 31st Dec (NYE overnighter in J should make for an unusual experience!).
All up 90k AA miles (inc. a 2 night stopover in HKG) + USD$160 in taxes. Miles purchased at the end of last year during the previous promo. Costing it out, we are hovering around the $2500 mark for full J, on CX in December!

We're pretty happy- please no one tell me we could have done better!! :)

that's an excellent itinerary... although how did you get a stopover in HKG? AA doesn't allow stopovers (or is it an overnight transit in each direction?)

Yeh that's exactly what I was thinking, AA only allow a stopover of upto 24 hours on each leg.
