Planning trip to US, would like to use my points for wife's J ticket (classic award) and buy one for myself to get award and status points, is this allowed?.

Absolutely !! Just make sure you are booked on the same flight or you might have some explaining to do

Excellent.

Think i'll advise her I go in F to get more points:)

You cannot do it on the same ticket, and if there is classic availability check the JASAs cost, some offer a very attractive F upgrade option after ticketing where you go online and select change then a F fare!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sorry lost me there.

Only jokin about F, we both would go in J, I use my points for her and buy a ticket for myself.

What Markis10 is saying is that you'll need to do these as 2 separate ticket/bookings, then ring up to get them linked.
When you make the classic award redemption, you cannot do a JASA in the same request - you need to do this after completing the classic.
Then you can ring them up and ask nicely to have them linked :)

That is correct, of course the OP may not be wishing to sit with SWMBO in which case separate/unlinked tickets would be handy :D.

I'd be opening two tabs in Internet Explorer and doing everything step-by-step simultaneously in each pane just to be sure there were no glitches.

Worth noting that because most jasas come from award inventory, if there is only 1 classic/award seat available (even if you can see a classic and jasa available in separate searches), on the booking process it will fail for the jasa booking as both seats are actually the ONE seat.

You don't want to get stuck with a classic seat and the cheapest jasa sitting at 2m points.

I didn't intend to do a JASA, one ticket for the good woman as a "Classic Award" (not any seat award) and buy the other with cash or CC.

Doing a JASA is not good value on the OZ/USA/OZ run to what I've seen so far, seems its something in the order of 950K points or 192K points and about $7K+ to pay. A Classic Award is 192K points plus $700.

I currently have 200K points.

I'm not sure if you missed it but generally if there is a classic award available then a JASA can be had for about the same price.

Quick search for SYD-DFW one way, 30 May 12 QF7, 112000 points for classic, not sure about the taxes as I don't have enough points. 112000 points + $455.65 for a JASA, for the same flight.

Not sure if you've booked yet, but if you can find a classic award it is well worth checking the cost of a JASA on the same flight.
