In the next 12 months or so I am planning a trip to the US using AA points. Is it worth paying the extra 10000 points for first class or just go Business class? Any opinions?

Should count yourself lucky IF you could grab an F seat from AAdvantage as most would be snatched up by QFF members who has some three weeks' heads up.

Good luck, sincerely.

Depends when you are flying. At the moment the last date is 19/1/15.On that date you can get 2 J awards BNE-LAX.On 2-3 days there is 1 J award from SYD or MEL.
Funnily in July there are 3 days with 2 J awards out of BNE.
Coming back of course January is prime time so no J awards.
No F awards but quite often I have seen 1 out of SYD and/or MEL but only on the day they are released so you have to keep looking.

i have an F AAward to HKG on QF next week, on the 747 but i'm still excited as my first lengthy F experience- do i still get all the add ons as if it was a qantas booked flight? e.g. chaffeur, spa, bring a guest into 1st lounge etc? how far out do they call you to organise these things, is it about 48 hours? or do you need to be proactive and call them?

you get all the benefits, but there is no car service for any passengers on flights to HKG, they are excluded.

if QF has your australian contact number in the booking the First Host will contact you the day before departure to book your spa treatment.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As everyone has said, it can be tough to get F seats to the states. Get in early or check twice a day, often people grab these seats on AA, especially the elites, because they can, and then cancel at the last moment, it is no skin off their noses, they even get their initial fees back.

I've managed to snag F returns for the last couple of years to the States around 9 months out.
