Hi all (apologies if this is better in a general forum),

A couple of months ago I booked a room at a Marriott in NYC from 21-28 June, anticipating those were the date I'd need to be in town.

But I was out by a day, and I'm actually getting in a day later, 22 June. When I try to change the room booking, it hikes up the price, so that the new price for 6 nights is more than for 7 nights (only by US$100, but still!).

Is there a way to check-in to the room without checking in (because I won't have left Australia yet), and leave the reservation as is? Or just tell them I'll be running a bit (a day!) late?

Otherwise I feel like I'm just getting screwed!

It’s not uncommon for people to book and pay for the night before to guarantee early check-in although I’m not sure how that works if you actually check in at 7pm or so ...

I didn't think about that!

Unfortunately I think it's likely I'll suffer a significant delay on my inbound flight postponing my planned early check-in.

If you're not arriving until the day after check-in it pays to let the hotel know in advance so they don't wipe your booking entirely.

If you're worried what they might do, call the day of and say something like your flight is delayed overnight, but you will definitely be using your reservation.

Call and let hotel know you'll be late. Shouldn't be an issue.
