Being based in Canberra, I normally don't even open those emails as the prices out of Canberra don't drop below the usual extortionate rates. But I was pleasantly surprised to see some genuine discounts for one-way economy seats: CBR-SYD $119, CBR-MEL $139, CBR-ADL $199. They're normally nearly double that.

Yeah what a sale ...PER to MEL and back in Feb 27. Around 2k return. Another 1k and I can go Asia to Europe and back in a flat bed!! ! They can keep.it!

A research analyst from Citi quoted in 'The Australian' says he expects to see 'further moderation in capacity' particularly on domestic leisure and non capital city routes. By the latter I assume he means 'not serving capital cities at each end', such as MEL-NTL, LST-SYD, MEL-BME and SYD-PPP to name a few.

The same analyst notes that thus far, QFd has cut more 'capacity' than VAd, which he ascribes to how Virgin had hedged fuel prices more to 30 June 2026 - however increased costs are now catching up with all domestic airlines.

Previously the airlines (especially QF) were claiming that travel demand remained robust, as allegedly Australians were unwilling to give up the travel bug. But with growing economic uncertainty such as discussion in the media as to how employers are less willing to hire (especially in Victoria) and the supposed threat of AI to jobs, as well as the probability petrol and diesel prices will rise further due to the Strait of Hormuz situation, suddenly the airlines have ceased making such an assertion.

Pity these fares aren't available on Amex travel, as I'd like to use my $450 travel allowance.

I'm certainly not going to use hard earned cash, as I have no real need to travel domestically at the moment.

Probably a similar situation for many people, hence the sale.

It’s a pretty narrow travel window over the summer break when business travellers aren’t slogging back ‘n fourth on the triangle routes. Which is probably more the reason for the Sale.

I’m surprised there haven’t been more like this over the years TBH.

Just looked for the tennis in Jan...ex PER. Laughable for a sale and with a biz ticket being over 2k one way ..I nearly spat out my cuppa tea!! That's a sale price!! I'll stick with VA.

Amex Travel and any agency who sells QF via the legacy edifact channel usually get access to the sale fares a day after they go live on the QF website (ie. today).

Ended up booking some travel to a regional port to see family over the Aus Day long weekend. Fare was about 40% off the usual. J is about the same as what whY normally is.
