Auckland Airport No trains until end of April

Replaced by buses (who knew Auckland had trains???)
They’re hiding in plain site in Auckland - buried underground and camouflaged as just another bit of the “Britomart” (a meaningless term / name for anyone not from Auckland!) 😂.

But like MEL, they don’t actually go to the airport. There is another thread on the bus/train combo here.

Skybus was a permanent Covid casualty….. 😔.

I think my last Uber in from AKL in December was ~$70…

Just so long as the Milk trains are not affected, Butter is at a record price on world markets!

Not a bad thing given they are now owned by the Canadians and British, as Kinetic they run all the Sunny coast public transport, except for the school busses which are CDC (French)

Current Auckland rail shutdown is maintenance ~ upgrades.
rnz --> Auckland passenger trains shut down for most of April
Trains in Auckland will not run for 16 days over the Easter holidays, as work persists ahead of the City Rail Link opening next year.

KiwiRail says no passenger rail will operate from 12 April to 27 April, allowing crews to build critical upgrades and complete major infrastructure on the Auckland underground. A small number of freight trains will be working at times, it said.
<snip>
"The 16-day shutdown set for the Easter to Anzac holiday period will also be part of this concerted push to prepare for the City Rail Link and ensure the metro network is primed and ready for the increase in the number of trains."

Auckland Transport was running replacement buses alongside regular scheduled buses for those still needing to travel.

CDC NSW is a part of ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC), which in turn is owned by ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited. Parent company ComfortDelGro is headquartered in Singapore, and also operates in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, China, Ireland, France, Malaysia, Spain, Portugal, Greece and the Netherlands.

So how much in average would be a late evening Uber into AKL town from the airport?

Are you HLO and daring enough to meet our dear friends/bros/siss on the train from Puhinui to Waitemata?
If you can dep the int terminal, ie, be at the transport hub by 7.30pm, you could be a Waitemata by 8.45pm, for cheaps.
Done the Puhinui change from the bus to the train, since they upgraded the station, its now easy to get from the bus to the ramp, to the train dep platform to the city.
CRL now 99.9% complete, and its only the Western Line that might get closed, but the Southern Line should now be running all the time.

Just doing a sample booking right now (21:19 SYD time) suggests the cost would be in the region of NZ$60.

But of course, you could have done this too.

Thanks though.

Another long rail closure coming up in Auckland:

All lines: Full network closure from Saturday 27 December 2025 to Sunday 18 January 2026. Some services resume between 19 January to 26 January 2026. Full closure 27 – 28 January 2026.

It must be a Kiwi tradition for the railway system to take a break over the summer holidays, as I can see that the entire train network in Wellington is also closed from Friday 26 December 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026, with most lines not re-opening until another week after that.
