I wonder how long it will be before the new administration decides to stop most of these flights. I don't think it's an if....only a when.

Well, it works both ways. Delta and United will squeal if they have to halt 5th freedom flights out of Japan.

I think you'll find that the US relies on 'agreements' made immediately after WWII for flights out of Japan. I note that there is a new agreement from 2010. Notably, the US airlines get 10% of any increase in slots.

Bearing in mind connecting traffic in DXB from Aus/Pac/Afrcia/Sth America with Greece as the end destination, and also if they have traffic rights ATH-JFK/EWR (?) then they are basically only competing with Delta on a nonstop basis ATH-JFK and united EWR-ATH, and surely there'd be enough Greek diaspora to connect through DXB in the other direction.
