Asiana to exit Star Alliance

As widely expected due to the KE 'merger'/takeover. Routes will eventually be right-sized or exited for the combined carrier.

I'm Diamond with Asiana through to January 2023. I wonder if status will move to Korean Air or if any Star Alliance members will do a status match.

If they do merge it I assume you'd end up with Morning Calm Premium.

Worse deal for those who have Asiana Platinum status (1m miles) who'll lose *G status and instead end up with Skyteam.

As much as I hate their systems, consider transferring to TK and earn Gold there before losing your OZ gold. They have similar levels needed to reach*A Gold, family pooling and an extensive European network. Their process for redemptions is slowly getting better. Unfortunately no lifetime Gold.

It's a shame to lose Asiana - they had the best ground service in Sydney. I still remember the shock when they had completed (as much as they could) the old passenger departure card for me (I was flying business).

I'm sorry to see we'll lose OZ from the *A network. These days I only use *A for crazy mixed carrier routes when I have accumulated enough Krisflyer points (i.e. not often at all), but have found the OZ flights east out of Tashkent a bit of a godsend. I will miss Seoul - for reasons I can't quite fathom, I really like the place.

Another loss for lifemiles. Was able to get F awards from ICN - FRA and return.

Tempted to earn with TK but I might put all my eggs in QF now.

TK looks like you need 40,000 to hit Star Gold and then 30,000 miles over one year or 45,000 miles over two years to renew.

Still a couple of years to go! No F anymore on OZ, but there's good availability ex Europe to SYD through next year available through most *A partner programs (but only sector-by-sector on Lifemiles for some reason, meaning a screenshot booking would be required).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Agreed - I'd use your LM's asap - so few *A carriers ex-SYD - at least OZ has 2 J seats into/out of SYD - unlike HN which only ever has 1 seat (but 2 flights per day). I've been hanging out for JFK-ICN-SYD in Sept 2022 - but no award seats after Sept 6 which does not suit me - so bit the bullet and booked SQ EWR-SIN-SYD (using SQ points).

(Note JFL-ICN-SYD and LAX-ICN-SYD do show up on LM without screen shots - when available)

Who knows how LM works 🤷‍♂️

LHR-ICN-SYD refuses to show as a though connection even though transit time in ICN is just a little over three hours. LHR-ICN and ICN-SYD are available individually.

Anyone know when TG may load J reward flights ex SYD for 2022? Looking mid June.
