Does anyone have much experience in redeeming Asia Miles for Domestic QF J Flights or International J or F Flights.
Just looked at the Asia Miles site and the points required seem a lot lower for example F Melboune - London 260,000 Asia Miles versus 384,000 QF . Melbourne- Perth 50,000 Asia Miles versus 72,000 QF. With the current Amex transfer rates would it be better to transfer to Asia Miles to redeem for QF flights probaly mostly domestic? How do there taxes stack-up?

Cheers

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll look at this. Be interested in a follow up post if you go ahead

I looked into this recently for J flights. You're right...cost in points is lower with CX compared to QF. I looked at transferring reward points into CX but the rate of less than 1:1 was a disincentive. I already have Asia Miles account but CX told me that I would need some days for my account to be credited. Eventually I stuck with SQ, even lower cost in miles. SQ transfer from Amex is 1:1.

Yes the award rates are lower and now Amex MR transfers to CX at 1:1 but I think most AFFers have been transferring Amex MR -> SPG -> US Airways for the bonus points on offer.

Whilst a lot of people are transferring to US via SPG I still think there is a lot of value transferring to CX as you can buy US points in cash and the it is cheaper to redeem OW airline awards using CX rather than QF, even on QF metal. Based on the letter I got earlier from Amex CX 1:1 transfer is here to stay, and it is a great thing.

Different programs have different burn and earn rates.

Such Asia miles redemptions would be more beneficial to those who can earn them easily.

It seems CX don't give points on the cheaper economy fares so it may be harder to garner sufficient.

Do CX have an equivalent of the JASA, including for QF metal flights?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
