Is it possible to book an ASA with qantas points and then earn the miles from the flight with another airline as if it was a paid fare class?

Is it possible to book an ASA with qantas points and then earn the miles from the fight with another airline as if it was a paid fare class?

There may be exceptions I don't know about, but generally no, because it books into U (assuming a JASA), so other airlines' systems have no way of differentiating it from a Classic award, i.e. it doesn't look "paid" to them.

Depends on the type of any seat award. One of the expensive ones in a normal paid fare class (not classic award fair class, should earn in theory. I don't think anyone is prepared to test the theory.

AA earning table from QF flights does not have P or U class in there:

Nor does it have X (economy) or Z (PE) fare class.

So, the answer is not hopeful with standard J/FASA as we normally know it.

A standard J/FASA can book into any available fare class. What you talking about are the marginal ASA. While thy might be preferred around here thy cannot be call Standard ASA, especially given the hoops required to book one.

I did qualify "as we (AFFers) know it"

I'm sure you know that I know that most AFFers know the 'standard' vs. the QF preferred version*

* deliberately long winded (a la Rumsfeld) to suit the purpose : lol

We affers are fully aware that there is much more to an ASA that our preferred booking method.

Has anyone here booked an U/X ASA on JQ/ 3K?
Do you earn points/ SC?

Points earn on JQ is very restrictive so the answer is no, it's one of the few non award flights where a QF flight number even dos not earn in most cases.
