Qatar Airways has added Garuda Indonesia as a new partner. You can easily redeem Qatar Avios for GA flights online, and there's lots of award availability in both Economy and Business!

I can see award flights available on Seats.aero with Garuda for various FF programs but it doesn’t seem to list Qatar. Also flights PER DOH flying QR under other programs show up but not QR itself. Does seats.areo not list Qatar or Avios flights? Is there a different search engine to find Avios flights?

There is also an option to redeem Garuda indonesia flights with Garuda miles. It can work out well especially when there is a sale on Garuda miles

Does this apply to domestic Garuda flights? I was looking at CGK-AMQ (Ambon). I looked on QR app and it won't let you select a domestic flight.

I have a revenue flight coming up on Garuda and would like to credit it to my Qatar account.

The QR website says this is possible, but in manage my booking on the Garuda website and app, QR doesn't come up as an option.

Has anybody had success at checkin time or another option?

Many thanks.

I have recently booked a Qatar Rewards flight on Garuda from SYD-DPS in J. I am unable to select seats on the Qatar website.
The QR PNR works on the Garuda website but seat selection is not possible as well. Has anyone else seen this or know of a workaround?

I don't know the answer to this, but have you tried calling Garuda?

FWIW I recently used Qatar Avios to book a flight on Airlink and was able to select a seat by calling Qatar. I was going to call Airlink, but when I called QR first to get the partner airline PNR, I mentioned it's because I wanted to select a seat and the guy offered to try doing that for me on his end - which worked. Was not possible to select a seat at all online.

I can see availability of Business class seats on seats.aero - Qatar Avios but when I go to the Qatar website, there is no availability on any day. I contacted Qatar and they weren't very helpful. Can anyone help me find out how to book those flights? I will need to transfer Amex points to pay for them.

Silly question but have you looked at booking them through Virgin Atlantic instead?
Amex had a 40% bonus on transfers to Virgin Atlantic and their awards for Garuda are great value with the sweet spot being SYD/MEL-DPS for only 40k points. Flights are bookable on the website and can select seats etc, very easy process.
I’m Qatar Platinum and I still find there call centres aren’t great

Thanks @jase05 I will give it a go.

So a month or so ago transferred some Avios to Qatar (via BA) from our US based Amex card during a 30% BA Avios transfer bonus, in anticipation of booking a Bali-Return on Garuda when plans firmed up for next year. Understood it is a little speculative transferring as such, but worst case will have some Avios and they will get used eventually.

Went to book 2 adults, 1 child and an infant via QR and got disconnected at payment page. No biggie, seats disappeared but figure back in few hours. Either way there were plenty of seats on the days either side.

I decided to go via QR Live Chat to see if they could find the booking but they informed me there that it’s not possible to book an infant on any partner reward. I queried them on it and the referred me to Point 3 here:

And sure enough, cant do it

Well this puts a screw in the plans. Did some research and it is the same issue when booking via Flying Blue, one person who had booked through them had had success calling Garuda Sydney office to add an infant to a flying blue redemption on Garuda, but paying 10% of the cash fare (would be ~$300).

I gave them a call and they said only Qatar can add it if booking is through them.

Ok Plan B, again a little risky but calculated.

So I booked 1x adult with the infant via Virgin Atlantic who do allow partner infant bookings, then booked 1 x Adult and 1 x Child via QR on the same flights to use most of the Avios and the carrier charges are a lot lower (~$170 for adult vs ~$300 on VS). Luckily had more MR points to send to VS who charge 5k points per direction for the infant

I double checked how many seats available via both platforms before attempting. And booked Vs first to lock the infant in as that was causing the issue.

Not ideal being on two separate bookings but we will see what happens! More than capable if do have to be split up under IRROPS or something

Anyway a word of warning for any infant bookings via QR! (except on their own flights)

I do note that when looking up the flights on QR it always showed the infant as bookable with the standard 10% of Avios required so there were no red flags there
