So we're looking at booking (in the next few days to get early booking discount etc) a cruise from Reykjavik to Churchill (Manitoba Canada) in July/August 2020 on Silversea. We're planning to spend some time in Iceland beforehand (been there before so have a pretty good idea of what we'll do - ie hire a car and drive around) but would like to spend some days (4 or so) in Churchill at the end of the cruise - there are really 2 options - tour package (very expensive) or hotel/motel and day tours.

Do any AFFers have any advice to offer on the Churchill "extension" ? It will be August - great for beluga whales but not high season for polar bears.

(note a very similar cruise is also an option from Churchill to Kangerlussuaq (Greenland) - same ship on the return - still trying to decide which direction to go).

Many thanks drron - read your full blog - excellent reading - great photos. Still unsure about a few extra days in Churchill - our thinking is "we'll never be here again - so why not" (can be a slippery slide when planning trips). We did an expedition on the Explorer (fka Prince Albert - to Spitzbergen and Iceland way back in 2010 so wanted to see Greenland and northern Canada. This time the ship will be the Silver Cloud - refurbished as an expedition ship - clearly more passengers but a little more luxury. Of course if we do the additional days in Churchill we won't be able to take advantage of the included charter flight Winnipeg to/from Churchill - but that additional cost will only be blip on the expense radar.
