Applying QF or AA ff number to QF metal Syd to Dallas under a AA flight number? It’s only discount economy?

What QFF tier are you?
Rev flight or award?
If you are QFF SG, and its rev I would put in my or in this case your QFF #.
Lounge access to the J lounge at T1 is why.
Easier to just scan the BP with the QFF # if SG or higher.

On the QFF points earn calculator, whY disc Y earn at the same rate, 4500 QFF points and 50 QFF SC.
AA points last 24 months, but your choice, as its more activity to extend, easy if you have lots of flights to earn and burn AA points.
Points are not transferable between the 2.

I’m only lowly bronze these days since being made redundant from my job of 24yrs before the pandemic. I have no AA points left but heaps of QF points, wondering if I could somehow use the QF points to upgrade on QF7 & 8 to J with the flight number being AA?

If you are on QF metal on an AA flight number you can't upgrade regardless of whether you are a QF or AA member.

You have to be on QF metal booked as QF.

If you're not really using your AA account any more you may as well credit these to QF.

Upgrading on that route will be hard, for a QFF NB member.
Higher status pax would have taken empty seats, if it had a QF flight #, or if you had booked it with the QF website.
OffT, oh, have you got Global Entry still?
I would say you have got a job on entry to the US, do not say you were made redundant.
If you really are without a job, maybe say retired if you look older, not bering ageist.
Always say you are employed, or retired.
Saying you were made redundant, while being honest might deem it that you might need to work.
On my immi forms, I write I am a cleaning contractor, which is true, and I can use a buffer polisher to prove it.
