Any recommended restaurants in Buenos Aires?

I am off to Buenos Aires late Sept. Are there any tips on nice restaurants?

I was in Buenos Aires 3 years ago for a few months, and was taken to 'Siga la Vaca' by my local host. The name means 'Follow the Cow' and it is a large, buffet-style, restaurant that is super-popular with the locals. There was a 30 minute waiting list when we showed up. It's right on the river in an awesome location as well.
The meat station was fantastic, where they cook everything over flame.
I wish Melbourne had a restaurant that cooked meat even 1/2 as good as they do in Buenos Aires. They seem to have mastered the art of it - which involves cooking over smoky wood fire, in some cases for hours.

In fact, I never went to a bad restaurant the whole time I was there. The touristy strip in Recoleta had quite a few excellent restaurants as well, and they're probably considered the 'worst' and most-expensive by the locals.

I havn't been there for a few years but La Enstancia in Lavalle used to be very good, and reasonably priced for asado.
But really, if you like grilled meat it's hard to go wrong; anywhere with people queueing to get in is likely to be OK.

Puratierra Restaurant
The degustation menu with matching wines is outstanding value. Need to cab there (not expensive) as it's located in the suburbs, but certainly worth the trip:idea: Alex (Gaucho 100K on FT) recommended it to me! Have a look at this thread on FT. I went through it carefully prior to my trip to BA in March

You might want to check this FT thread...there is a 'Cow Do' every year in BA (this year's has just happened and is number 6). I haven't looked in any detail, but I imagine this thread, and those for the previous five years, may have a lot of info on good restaurants that they have attended, as it is 'hosted' by a BA resident.

Edit: I notice kpc has referenced FT and Gaucho100K as well. Apologies, hadn't noticed before posting.
