Hi,

Newbie here so apols if I'm posting in the wrong place. I'm trying to get 2 J seats to London leaving around 22/05/09 for less than 7k each if possible. I just missed the Etihad sale by hours (to say I was annoyed is an understatement..!) where seats were $6100 all in on jetabroad.

I'm determined to pay no more than $6500 each and have reserved MH business/Econ mix as contingency. I don't need to ticket the MH seats until 20th March, what are the chances of something coming up between now and then given that travel is down overall? Jetabroad is showing Etihad/Emirates and Finnair/Cathy Pacific at around $7200 all in so not too far to fall into my price range.

The only criteria is ex MEL and as few stops to London as possible but I won't consider lower quality carriers like China Eastern etc

Theoretically I can pay more and just be done with it but Etihad have set the bar low for me and I'm stubborn as well as being a bit tight! All pointers gratefully received.

Cheers,

Mags

Not a bad shout, their taxes have certainly come down by a few hundred bucks in the last few weeks but overall they come out at $7415 inc taxes.

I'm trying to get $6500 or less including taxes so they're about $300 dearer than the cheapest on Jetabroad.

Webjet showing business class on SQ218/308.MEL-SIN-LHR for $5251.00 but only one way.

Gulf Air do BKK-LHR so could go anyone cheapest to BKK then Gulf to LHR.

Expedia has Emirates @ $5042:

MEL-SIN-DXB-LON vv

Flight time total 22hr15min, 26hr with connections so not that bad really.

Tix would have to be purchased immediately.

That's more like it! Have had a look on Expedia but can't find it, what are the flight numbers and dates? I'm searching on 22/05/09 to 13/06/09 but can be flexible on the return by a few days earlier if it brings the price down drastically.

Cheers all, I knew you'd come up trumps!

Maggie

expedia.com (US site). I used 10/6 as return date.

Of course, it's USD. Not AUD. Bummer.

Docjames, you nearly gave a coronary, I was already imagining the limo rode to the airport!

Yes, sorry it needs to come in under 6500 AUD or as close as possible.

Am I the only one determined to hold out in case a good deal comes along?

I know I'm risking capacity being cut but surely people are reconsidering splashing $15k to sit/lie on a plane for 24hrs in the light of recent job losses and loads are down as a result?

Best Flights have a JAL fare for under $7000 but it entails an overnight stay...nevertheless its cheap and if you are a Qantas FF you get SC and points.

Saw the JAL one and a stop over in Tokyo is very tempting but it's $7200 BEFORE taxes from Melbourne to London which is in zone 2.

I'm keeping an eye on Best flights offers as well as Jetabroad, is there anywhere else that I should be checking regularly?

We're holding the MH flights with Flightcentre who will match any Aussie sites so that's where I'm focussing my attention locally and Jetabroad have consistently come up a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than everyone else.

I've considered the 2 separate flights option but don't really want the hassle of making the connections and having to deal with baggage enroute.

then fly to Amsterdam and take a cheap BA flight to London...thats another alternative that might suit your budget.

If you are willing to fly out of PER then CX regularly come in around the 7.5k mark. I have done that a few times. I *think* they are now using long haul cabins to PER now too, rather than regional.

Otherwise, Y to asia and J from there perhaps? Finnair and SAS usually have these fares available, have to go via scandinavia though.

Mal - I'm LOVING friday 13th so far! Two seats booked to London, upper deck of 747 for less than the Etihad flights were that I missed and I get points. It's all good...!

A very happy Mags is now off to try and sleep after all that excitement.

Congrats on scoring such a good deal and not having to settle for a dodgy J product either!!
