Due to recently misreading the fine print, I'm 40 SC short of platinum, with anniversary at the end of March.

I'm flying internationally on 3 April.

Is there any way of getting the platinum?

sadly no unless QF offer you a challenge or a "pay with points" offer, which is unlikely if you're not already Plat.

Unfortunately your April 3 flights will contribute to your next membership year.

Other than that you can look at a run this weekend but it won't be cheap. I'd suggest something like MEL-SYD-OOL in flex Y should get you 80. Or xx_-BNE-TSV/CNS (where xx_ could be MEL/SYD/CBR/ADL)

Thank you. IMO, Qantas Club is as good as the other lounge (Sydney).
There is very little difference between lounges domestically. Personally I find the food better to my liking in the BNE Qantas lounge and that is usually my first port of call before visiting the business lounge.

As a Platinum flying internationally if flying via SYD/MEL the First lounge is ok and the luggage allowance is handy but you'd need to be flying often enough to make that worthwhile.

Being just 40 status credits short, I'd be booking a quick trip somewhere this weekend! ;) You could easily earn the 40 status credits with a return flight somewhere in flexible economy.

Is there fine print for status credits?
As already mentioned above I’m certain there are plenty of options for a quick status run to get across the line.
But without knowing your travel plans for the next 12 months (I.e. is it worth the effort to earn WP ?) , or where you are based it’s a bit difficult to make any meaningful suggestions.
Personally though, I would go for it, WP is easier to retain than achieve first time out.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

No alternative (like credit card offers) that'd post in time. In your shoes I'd definitely do a status run as the payoff is a no-brainer - better lounge offerings, better seat selection, landing to gold if you don't retain, 1,200 SC to requalify next year, bonus points...

re lounge differences.. maybe in Sydney I could agree somewhat, but there are differences, specially in BNE, New MEL(Spice Bar) and PER plus there are upgraded drinks of some sorts in the J lounges (eg: Cider is James Squires in J, and 5 seeds(?) in the QC).. There's probably other slight differences too but there are some.

Of course if one doesn't care about these things or has no plans or wish to take advantage of things like the Spice Bar or Cantina then sure, QF Gold is fine.

Is it worth a last minute status run to have? Well, again it all depends and I agree with GPH that future travel can and should dictate the value.

I do like JohnK's note that the SYD/MEL F lounges are "ok" (compared to the J lounges? LOL)

also of course WP advantages are a few more status bonus points, extra bag allowance, OWE and of course higher upgrade priority and access to request reward seats open....

Is this to attain or retain Platinum?
Either way next year if you fail to get to WP this year then next year it will be 1,400 SCs to attain.

If you attain or retain Platinum this year it will only require 1,200 SCs to retain next year.
