Hello everyone~

I'm going to Singapore then Taiwan in October for 3 weeks and I need to buy a new luggage! Before I was using my mum's but I've decided its time I get my own one! =P

I've done some research and I think I know what I want: 4 wheels, hard case, light weight...etc I know that Samsonite Cosmolite is prob the best for what I want, but it is way too pricey for me... So I've got my eyes on to the Antler Liquis.. The cosmolite and the Antler liquis seems to be very much alike and the Liquis is nearly half the price when sales are on. The only thing that is stopping me from buying the Antler Liquis atm is that I've seen this ad made by Samsonite Cosmo, where they were showing how strong & durable their luggage is, and the case bounces back when it get crushed....etc

My question is... Is Antler Liquis as strong as the Samsonite Cosmolite and if not, will it be up to the task of rough handling by the airport staff? Will it get crack and get broken easily and is it durable??

Also I've looked up their warranty, it says 10 year warranty.. but it doesnt say what they cover...! o___o

Would they replace/repair if the wheel or the zipper broke.. or if the case cracks..? And in what situation??

If anyone who own a Antler Liquis can comment on this or knows the answer to my questions that would be great! I need to know ASAP before the Myer sales ends!! and also Bagworld is on sales too i think.. Also please point out if theres anything else I should consider when buying a new luggage~ ^__^

Thank you! XD

I have the Cosmolite which I think is awesome - unbelievably light and convenient.

However I have had Antler in the past and they had pretty good build quality so I am sure you wouldn't go wrong with them either

I have the Antler Liquis (silver) luggage - it is very light so much so that I now pack my bag the night before air travel and weigh it - always surprised at how much extra can be added particularly with last minute shopping in USA. Some scratches/scuff marks are visible but who cares when contents inside luggage are well protected. Cosmolite was my other choice but the large case is just so upsized that I thought that it could pose some problems with airline baggage sizing.

Hi Giggling Puff,

The Samsonite Cosmolite is made from a patented material that they use in military, which is what the ad is getting at, it is the most durable type of material for a hard case. It also has a moulded inside, with the single handle meaning it is more spacious, and given its weight you could actually pack more in. It also had a scratch proof coating on it to help protect the outside.

- The Antler Liquis is a polycarbonate, the problem with polycarbonate is that it can crack once it hits very cold temperatures and receive a knock. This is more common then you would think, as the bag hold is below freezing in the hold, where the poly is still very brittle and fragile from the cold. It could also scratch quite easily, and isn't as easy to pack in.

- The warranties- both warranties only cover manufacturers defects, so things caused by the airline, or wear and tear are not covered, which pretty much means very little is covered by the warranty, unless it is actually damaged when you buy it or a manufacturing defect.

The Cosmolite, whilst expensive, is a better case, and it should outlast the Liquis, although Antler is a great brand and the Liquis is a quality product, in comparison to the cosmolite it is not as durable. You do however pay for this and in terms of polycarbonate Liquis is a great product.

You can also take a look at the new german made titan
Titan Luggage

it is somewhere in the middle of the 2 cases. It is made in Germany, and is Polycarbonate.

I would recommend the Cosmolite if you can stretch to it, and if you think you will get a lot of use out of it in the future. If you do not travel a huge amount then the Titan or the Liquis will be fine as well.

At the Luggage Professionals we do have a lowest price Guarantee of 5% so if you see it cheaper we will beat that price by 5%

Members of this forum also get a further 5% discount when they use the discount code AFF(case sensitive) in the shopping cart

Thanks and hope of some help

Thanks to all who replied, all your suggestions has been very helpful!! ^^

And esp Gorbo's!! Your reply has given me all the information I need, now I just need to decide which one I should get... Cosmolite or Liquis... >< Cosmolite definitely sounds better.. but the price...... sigh..

The sales is over and my friends has suggested me to buy the luggage overseas, as I'm not bringing anything there with me but I'll be bringing alot of shopping back home and it will be alot more convenient that way.. So I guess I'll have plenty of time to think then! XD

Thanks everyone~ :)

If in Asia watch out for forgeries, been there and done that with other goods, buy quality name brand luggage in OZ IMO.

Why are the Cosmolites the only Samsonite cases with no discounted amount?

How does Oz compare to other countries for luggage pricing? (Same as clothing, headphones, liquor, etc aka 200-300% more expensive)

Hi Mrmaxwell,

In regards to the Samsonite Cosmolite it is one of only products online that is not discounted. This is due to the quality and price point of the bag. We do specials in our stores and over the phone sometimes so calling for a best price is always a good idea, we also offer a 5% lowest price promise which keeps us competitive with our competition. In regards to pricing compared to the US on non discontinued products it is fairly comparable(10% here or there) on most brands samsonite antler, victorinox, titan etc
There are 1 or 2 which are around the 50% more expensive mark and we are working with the suppliers of these bags to lower the rrp's and get consumers the best deal possible.

Thanks
Gorbo

30% off all Samsonite at DJ's just now. 35% Antler. Just picked myself a nice cosmolite rollaboard ;)
Not sure when promotion ends, in store now and there is more staff than customers

I have a red samsonite cosmolite - the medium/large size ( not the extra large one ) and the first time I used it SYD -BKK - it arrrived in BKK with the pull up handle casing dinted so the handle does not pull up smoothly any more. :( After this last trip it has several scratches. We are now looking to replace our older two bags, and the Antler Liquis in navy blue has my vote. The handle casing on the Liquis is inside the case so wont get damaged by rough baggage handling, the medium fits nicely inside the large case - so excellent for my shopping trips :D And price wise the Luggage Professionals at Crows Nest have been the cheapest I have seen so far. Hoping for a post xmas sale :D

Just remember that the dark colour will show up the scratches more - we have the silver liquis and they are not so obvious.

Our Samsonite Cosmolite is covered in scratches-they really show up.
Besides as mrsdrron says we can do the Russian doll trick with the Antler Liquis which cant be done with the Cosmolite or Rimowa.Hence for us with regular US shopping trips the Liquis appears to be the way to go.

Just remember that the dark colour will show up the scratches more - we have the silver liquis and they are not so obvious.

According to the guy who tried to sell us 2 Liquis cases in Las Vegas - " the colour in the polycarbonate case goes right through - so scratches wont show " He had better be right - cause I like the navy.

Bumping an old thread, I got the Titan X2 in bright orange and its the best suit case i've owned thus far, (owned 3 Samsonites previously)!

So strongly recommend the Titan X2, bought mine on special when Myer have their random sales on luggage, however they don't stock it anymore.

Myer Sydney have 40% off sale on luggage today only - includes Antler Liquis and Samsonite Cosmolite ranges.

The Myer 40% sales are pretty regular, but the products vary.

We actually went to Myer at Hornsby prepared to buy, but they didn't have the models we wanted (Delsey)

On the way out we went past Bag Scene who had 50% off the ones we wanted. All in stock. We bought them there and then.

We bought 3 Antler Liquis in Navy at the Takashimaya Store special "Luggage Fair" Sale in Singapore last week. They are really great, thy fit one inside the other so you can start out with one bag on a big trip = but come home with 3. Did a fair bit of shopping in Singapore so used all three . Here they are ready to leave Singapore. Also got an 'Elle' travel handbag that virtually matches the Liquis, and it has a slide cover so goes over the small cabin bag handle - thats a big plus for me !

Following on from the advice in this thread I bought a 68cm Cosmolite from the Luggage Professionals (theluggageprofessionals) in July this year. I've just returned from giving it a 4 week endurance test to the UK and back via the Indian sub-continent. The case survived with only minor rub marks despite being put in and out of cars/taxis on a daily basis, and being subjected to the baggage "handling" of some demonstrably third-world airlines.
The case was so easy to pack and move around that I'm off to buy some matching cabin luggage.
Can totally recommend the case to others.
