Got an email offer to buy UA miles with a bonus offer of up to 100% a few days ago. I think the offer ends tomorrow morning Australian time. I would only ever consider it if there's a 100% bonus. However, this time the exchange rate with the USD is so poor and then the availability of reward flights has also not been anywhere near as good as before either, which begs the question... "is it even worth it this time?" I'm leaning towards not...

The 100% bonus doesn’t offset the exchange rate.
For *A you’d better buy Lifemiles at 140-150%.

AA also had 100% bonus recently, something I’ve waited for long time but now it’s too little too late.

Agree. The Aussie dollar is too low at the moment. While there are some advantages to UA's program - for example you can redeem awards on Singapore Airlines from Asia all the way through to Australia, at 50K each way for those awards they don't make much sense (~AUD2916 return before taxes - you can almost get it for that price or less outright, and earn miles).

Add in the fact that we can't travel overseas right now and I'll also be sitting this one out until there is some more certainty about the future. (I don't buy miles speculatively, anyway.)
