Hi all,

According to the Qantas earning table on the AA website (unable to post link as newbie with not sufficient posts yet), I'm pretty sure the following itinerary should net 10,000 EQPs for the platinum challenge.

CDG-xDBX-MEL (B) 10,490 miles @ 1 00% BM (base miles) x 1.5 EQP/base mile = 15,735 EQP
MEL-xDBX-CDG (S) 10,490 miles @ 50% BM x 0.5 EQP/bases mile = 2,622.50 EQP

So in effect, the first flight from Paris to Melbourne should provide AA Platinum via a Platinum Challenge.
Is there anything I'm missing here?

Cheers.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

But CDG-DBX will not be on AA or QF metal (operated) so is not eligible
Challenge (AA) - FlyerGuide Wiki
UPDATE: As of July 2012, flights marketed and operated by certain partners will also be eligible to earn points that count toward the completion of a Challenge: British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines and Qantas. (Cathay Pacific is notably missing.) The specific language from the challenge confirmation says "And now you have more opportunities to complete your Challenge because points earned on qualifying flights on American Airlines, American Eagle, the AmericanConnection® carrier, British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qantas and their eligible codeshare flights count toward your Challenge."

Thanks for reminding me Mwenenzi - I had read this but forgotten.

In which case, DXB-MEL (on QF metal) = 7231 miles x 100% base miles x 1.5 EQP/base mile (for B class) = 10,846 EQP

Therefore still ok for platinum challenge?

Cheers.

Don't be too sure on the CDG-DXB not earning / counting toward the challenge - AA tend to award purely on Marketing carrier.

I have had one or two unexpectedly beneficial postings over the years.

Not saying it will be counted, but it might ... in any case you should still be ok...

just a quick one for those in the know.
I will take up the platinum challenge, have a Mel - syd - Sin in J return booked, by my calculations that should be over the 10K miles as it would be syd-sin(3912 ish * 1.5 = 5868) + eyd-mel(450ish * 1.5 = 675 ) *2 is over 10000 challenge. am i looking at this right? class would be business.
Is the memebership for the year? also how many more miles to qualify for exec platinum (think thats what its called, basically equivalent to qantas plat

Thanks a load

one other note, haven't actually signed up to the challenge yet, is it a issue that iv booked this travel with QF before signing up? will be using my AAdvantage number on flight.

I pretty certain from what I've read it isn't a problem to have flights because you can only sign up in that short 3 month period closer to when you fly. I will certainly be booking mine first. But someone who knows more can confirm!

I did the AA Plat Challenge last year. I forget the exact details now (combination or miles or segments) which must be flown within three months. They did allow me to go back a few weeks to capture miles flown previously. Got all the information from the AA customer service rep on the phone. Just called the regular number and asked about the Plat Challenge and was transferred to the right folks. There was a fee as I recall.

All the answers to your questions can be found here:

From what you have posted, it should be OK but it all depends on your booking class - you have said business but haven't specified which letter.

Just make sure it is one of these and you should be fine:
