annoying arrival video Mel

I saw today that Etihad just announced an extension of a marketing deal with Tourism Aust which prompted this post : is anyone else cranky at those videos shown just before arrival ?

Last Fri eve on EY arriving Melb we had the usual immigration/quarantine video (its made to look soo complicated) but that was followed by a 10 minute pitch to visit Mel and the great state of Vic. Since its shown on the PA system you cant finish watching a movie or do any other AVOD stuff, you cant turn the volume down, and I cudnt even make myself understood to SWMBO, but then that's not unusual.. Anyway, it was an annoying interruption, and it was hardly going to sell us on visiting, since were already on the flight..

The CSM said somebody else had complained about the commercial, appreciated it wasn't 'official govt video tho it was shown directly after, and said he didn't know any other EY destination that featured this sort of infomercial.

What happens on EY arrivals Syd Per or Bris ? If EY are going to spoil the last 10 mins in the air with a commercial pitch then we will look elsewhere next trip.

I can see this becoming more prevelant in the future unfortunately, I know there is a reason why I BYOD for IFE! Another good case to argue for noise-cancelling earphones as well!

I'd definitely complain. As if ten minutes is enough to highlight Melbourne. The Laneways! The Yarra! The Trams! At least the last hour of the flight should be dedicated to the delights of Melbourne.

That vid brings back good memories.

I have seen a few arrival vids over the past 10 or so years - all pretty annoying and counter-productive I reckon. With individual IFE now so prevalent surely you can leave it to the individual if they want to see something about the destination. 10 minutes is excessive.

Yes very funny, Mel needs all the ad time it can get, but when the vid is positioned right after the official arrivals info, is pitched over the PA at a volume that can't be ignored and cancels out one's last precious AVOD time, then it's time to say enough whoever you are..

Oh, did I mention the female voice-over was one of those self-satisfied, poorly enunciated types that have a cavity to instantly annoy ?

seriously - anybody know if Etihad run similar promos for Syd, Bris or Per flights ??
