AFFers have been everywhere:p Anyone been to Angel Falls?...(I have been to Victoria and Iguazu Falls, and am a bit addicted to Falls:shock:). How did you get there? Costs? Is Venezuela (esp. Caracas) safe? Be really interested to hear about any first hand experiences!

Yes, having now done Niagara, Victoria and Iguazu Falls, going to the highest ones in the world would be something...

I don't have much time for the leader of Venezuela personally, but i was thinking of 2014 doing a USDM redemption to go down to South America, perhaps FRA to Bogota but they do also fly to Caracas from FRA i think, which would probably be my preference to get there... But the Falls are a bit out of Caracas aren't they?? So if anyone has been it would be interesting or know of any good tours to get to them...

What is it with you medico's cruising around the world :D:cool:  ;)
Angel Falls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Angel Falls is one of Venezuela's top tourist attractions, though a trip to the falls is a complicated affair. The falls are located in an isolated jungle, and a flight from Puerto Ordaz or Ciudad Bolívar is required to reach Canaima camp, the starting point for river trips to the base of the falls. River trips generally take place from June to December, when the rivers are deep enough for the wooden curiaras used by the Pemon guides. During the dry season (December to March) there is less water seen than in the other months (This can be clearly seen in the photos of the falls above)

Yes, having now done Niagara, Victoria and Iguazu Falls,
Me as well, in that order

I was there in the 80's.
Flew from Caracas to Ciudad Bolivar (I think) and then by DC3 to some very small place and two days in a dug out canoe sleeping in hammocks in the jungle. Got within 10km of the base of the falls. Definitely worth doing...once.
There was an option for a flight over the falls but cloud cover could hide the falls and you end up with nothing.

I knew an AFFer must have been...:)!

Hmm, doesn't sound like the easiest of the lot to go see....

Angel Falls - How to get there
That makes it more interesting...

Found this video (travel agency promo) but gives you a good idea about Angel Falls:
Angel Falls Expedition with Osprey Expeditions - YouTube

Another video here:
EL SALTO ANGEL DE VENEZUELA - YouTube

Any advice about the safest way to get there would be appreciated esp. navigating through Caracas airport and Caracas itself which has a terrible reputation for muggings, kidnappings, murders etc....:evil::!:

Thinking a bit more about it I reckon the best part was the canoe trip alongside the flat top mountains(Tepuis) that were, apparently, the setting for Arthur Conan Doyles "The Lost World".

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Very fitting you should mention Arthur Conan Doyle. He was a physician just like myself and I believe kpc.We are the detectives of the medical profession and we feel it is incumbent upon us to make sure things are what they should be hence our desire for travel to see for ourselves.
I also have a thing for waterfalls.Niagara is the only one mentioned here that I have seen but next year will be seeing Victoria and Tugela falls.
From the description I think there is little chance mrsdrron will want to see Angel falls.
