ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

I've been watching NH awards availability on VA for a few months now.

Looking at HND-SYD for Mrs GO and Miss GO at the end of July (Tuesday 29th, so after AU school holidays have ended). Very little showed more than 2 weeks out, so I started playing a game to check whether I could get 2 J awards one/two weeks out. This little game seemed to yield positive results for months - April, May and even June - yes, I was consistently offered NH J awards by VA with one week's notice for the past three months.

Now that we are in July and closer to D-day, someone or something has seemingly changed the rules... there's almost no NH award availability until late August! This is what I see when searching for a single Y HND-SYD award from NH on VA. I am WP at VA, so I would hope to have seen something better than this.

Mrs GO and Miss GO are already booked on a Y award home from HND with QF but I was hoping to burn some VFF points at the pointy end and make their final flight a little more comfortable.

The irony of this situation is that it would've been their only non-OW flight across a 100% awards itinerary that spans SYD-LAX-JFK-LHR-FLR-x-VCE-HEL-NGO-HND-SYD. I've really tried to use my VFF here and just found OW options to be so much better (running completely against my prior expectations after I went and signed up for UA, AC and VS).

Does anyone have any ideas as to why the rules of my little "nab J awards one week out game" shifted so massively against me? Is it VA, NH or just the points gods telling me that I have always been a OW guy and I should just stay in my lane?

I'll probably try the WP option of calling QF to see if they will release J seats on QF26 but burning VFF on NH would've been so much better.
