Hello all

I've been reading AFF on and off for about 3 years, joined up a couple of years ago and have only recently begun posting actively. I've learnt a fair bit reading this forum, and hope to be able make a contribution and help others by sharing my own experiences/knowledge/wisdom.

I'm probably not a frequent flyer in the true sense of the word, as I typically only fly half a dozen times a year (almost exclusively self-funded leisure travel), though I've done enough to have maintained QF Gold status continuously since 2009. As my username suggests, I am very tall (7 feet with shoes on), which means I try to avoid economy class travel as best I can, and flying in the 'premium' cabins obviously helps keep the SCs ticking over (with the odd double/50% bonus status credit offer and JASA thrown in). Most of my travel is international, particularly to Northern Europe (where all my family reside; typically fly AY as it's convenient and well priced) but I also visit New Zealand and the US a fair bit too (on QF marketed tickets). Having become a father about 3 years ago, I've put in some hard yards flying with an infant/child in J so have plenty to say on this controversial topic as well. :)

Cheers

Belated greetings are in place. Are you an expert at choosing exit rows ? They can be a challenge but rewarding in that you almost feel like its business class seating when nobody is in front of you, no seatback is going to knock that hot tea onto your lap.

Thank you marki - I've got plenty exit row experience, as back in the 'good old days' (when exit row seats had not been turned into a source of revenue and were only allocated at check-in) I had a nearly 100% success rate of scoring exit row seats by showing up at the airport early enough to first in line for check-in (and pleading compassion :)). Most of my travel these days is with my family, however, and exit rows don't work as children under 15 years of age can't be seated there.

That said, while I'm pretty skinny my wingspan exceeds my height by a few inches, so the width of economy seating is real issue for me. OK for short flights, but seat 4E on a 737 AKL-SYD was already too much for me.

EDIT: realise 4E is not an exit row, but the point about seat width stands.

Welcome 2tall4! It's not often I come across people taller than my 6'9"/205cm!

Hi 2tall4Y,

Welcome to AFF. :D:D:cool:

Understood there can be confronting issues with ER ( Exit Rows) and being a source of revenue cannot be good for us in the long run. Speaking of height do you still find the Business seats too short ..... I do and I am a little shorter!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
