Not sure if this is the right place to post mods so feel free to move as you see fit.

Ok guys would love some perspective on a ticketing proposition that has come up tonight. Mate and I went to the Sing GP this year and it was fantastic. I flew on Lifemiles with SQ Y and he on QFF with MH in J.

So next year we want to head to the KL GP. Mate has proposed that he shouts me the flight up there in J on EK 60K each + 317AUD taxes etc and I shout an Air Asia J flight back at $660AUD give or take per person.

MH is not on the cards and Lifemiles routing via BKK doesn't work for the time we have off. No J SQ until T - 14 days prior to departure which puts it out of consideration.

On face value it seems like 1350AUD is quite the bargain but curious to know what you guys think?

Plan is to fly up on March 26 and depart KL to March 29/30 depending on timings.

Edit: Sorting out my etc from my et al's

I think I wish to know what other authors were involved in that fare?

Sorry, I know that is unhelpful :)

Not sure I understand mate :) ...care to elaborate?

Took me a while too! In your original post you said "... taxes et al" , instead of "... taxes etc". Of course et al usually means other (authors) involved in a publication, but I am sure the literal translation works just fine.

Anyway from what I see you're spending $660 on your mate and getting $300 + 60000 points of value in return. Or another way spending $660 and getting a business class flight on EK. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Your mate pays $300 + 60,000 points versus yourself who pays $660 ..... it's clearly obvious who's in front, you will be.

Effectively you are buying 60,000 points for $360.00 ..... that's a deal.

Regardless of how you get there .....do it ..... I just got back form the Moto GP at Sepang 2 weeks ago ......excellent track and facility.

Got a car / stayed two night in downtown K.L. then checked into a very good B & B in Sepang on the Friday - Great weekend - jumped in the car on Sunday evening drove across the road and flew out that night.

If you are not in Melb. ,when you take into account decent (corp area) ticketing / the price gouging that goes on for decent accommodation/rentals at Phillip Island ......the cost to go to the Malaysian GP in style normally beats the cost to go to the Aussie G.P. at Phillip Island hands down.

Ah that'll happen when posting online late and after a few cheeky vino's :)

That's what I figured Alan. Doing the sums if I was going to route my own way there it would be a couple hundred shy of what's on offer so seems like a no brainer. Just thought I'd run this past the experts - Cheers

Hey Clivem - Thanks for the insight, it's very helpful. Just for my own curiosity is there some kind of bus service at the track to take people to KLCC? The plan is to stay downtown and only come up for the races but I'm not that familiar with Sepang compared to other courses.

A few people do the monorail to Sentral, then fast express train to the KLIA, then there are shuttle bus to the track - people where saying it took between 60 and 90 minutes each way dependant on loads.

Other perhaps better option is the Skybus service from several point in KLCC to Sepang direct. ......we just hire a car track parking is good.

For the F1 they have a variety of transport options - all of them will take 1hr, probably a bit longer on the Sunday.

KLIA Ekspres to Airport, then Bus transfer (MYR25 each way with some discounts for multi-day)
Direct buses from Sentral and KLCC (MYR20 each way)

Taxis can normally be negotiated for around MYR100-150 on way out from city, and there is a booth with flat fee of MYR250 on way back that is close to the exit, or a bunch of cheaper taxis parked by the side of the highway (or you can setup a designated spot)

Last year (2014) the KLIA Ekspres buses did not have authority to use the contraflow lanes close to the circuit, which meant 45min for me stuck in traffic getting to the circuit on race day, the Direct buses were the quickest way there.

Leaving the circuit I took the Bus+Train and a mate took the Bus to KLCC. He arrived at KLCC at the same time as I got to Sentral -- so again with good traffic the buses can be quicker (albeit the train more comfortable)

As you may have seen there are early bird ticket offers (till 31-Dec) which are very good value
Buy 2015 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix - Ticketing - Sepang International Circuit

I recommend the K1 stand (at Turn 1) - great view of main straight, turns 1,2,4, close to the entrance and exit, and really good value.
On the Friday you have free access to all the stands, so can take in some other views.

PM me for any more info.
