I wouldn't think the lounge pass is transferable and you will need to present your Velocity FF card to gain access to the VA lounge, not the AMEX card. As such, don't think your wife will be able to use your lounge pass without you flying together.

I've got this card, and I'm surprised at some of the merchants coming in at 0.5 points per dollar.
As per https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/velocity-rewards-cards/velocity-platinum/
• 0.5 Point per dollar spent[SUP]3[/SUP] on eligible Card purchases at:- Utilities which are gas, water and electricity providers

- Insurance offered by companies other than American Express

- Telecommunication providers which includes goods and services purchased from phone, mobile and internet service providers

- Government bodies including the Australian Taxation Office, Australia Post, federal/state and local government bodies

So far I've seen Netflix (also referenced here http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ss-rewards/netflix-only-0-5-points-69694.html ) and Clipp the Bar tab app (referenced here http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rral-offers/clipp-bar-tab-app-15-a-68639.html ) come through as 0.5 points per dollar. It seems they are being categorised as telco, but they are definitely not.

There is a thread from a few weeks ago where this came up and someone said that they had been able to have someone else use the pass. I didn't take a lot of notice on how they did it but it was approved by VA.

I had a look at this too. Was wanting to figure out if Foxtel would come through at 1.0 or 0.5
It links back to Amex's merchant codes. A copy of all the merchant codes can be download at: https://secure.cmax.americanexpress...l/AtWork/japa/files/MCC_Directory_April07.pdf

Netflix and Foxtel are considered "Cable and Other Pay Television Services" which are actually listed under Utilities not telecommunications (Near bottom of Page 8 of merchant code guide)

Does anyone know any details of the discounted business class companion fares you can get to Europe with Etihad?

It says discounts vary in the terms and conditions. Anyone had any experience trying to book these? Any chance it would be two for one? Or is "substantial discount" whatever they feel like on the day?

Trying to start planning for a trip to Europe next year. At the moment looks like we will be flying in basic economy! (Price more important to us than status credits) but if the "companion fare" deal comes out pretty good could be worthwhile investment (even if only one way for example!) Happy to fly up economy and maybe back business as an option (and a treat for us!)

I think it used to be 2-4-1 of the most expensive full J base fare with taxes payable for both people. Given how expensive the full J was, even 2-4-1 it was about the same price as a J sale fare. Im not sure if this has changed.

Thanks for that. Luckily wasn't the reason we took the card out. Would of been good as an added bonus if we did manage to find a sweet spot somewhere. no harm in asking when it comes time to book.

Oh well might be back to economy and then hopefully have enough points for the following trip back to Greece (no accommodation costs for us there!) might have enough points to do business class reward for the long haul part (OZ - Abu Dhabi) return for two and slum it in economy for the shorter Abu Dhabi - Athens route).
