As of 20 March 2019, you can now earn or redeem American AAdvantage miles for China Southern flights. This could present some interesting opportunities, particularly with CZ's excellent award availability...

It appears that CZ awards aren't yet available online, so you'd need to call American Airlines to book.

At the moment, you can only search it from Expert flyer, however AA won't be able to book J on CZ at the moment, Y is fine. Please be aware that the YQ does apply on CZ redemption.

I don't think CX would like that idea with the hub in Guangzhou so close to HKG.
