No - you can only upgrade using QF points on QF operated flights.

AA economy is like JQ, AA Domestic First is like QF Domestic Business.

The exception is on some LAX/SFO - JFK flights where they operate a 3-class aircraft, in which case First is like QF Domestic Business, Business is well, a notch down, and Economy still sucks.

AA domestic in Economy is something you take to get from A to B. Be aware that some discount booking classes such as O and Q do not earn QF points or status credits.

It will cost 15,000 AAdvantage miles and USD75 to upgrade an AA LAX-JFK flight from economy to Business (3 class aircraft 772/762) or First (2 class).

To immediately confirm the upgrade you need to be on an AA flight number. Find A class on a 2 class aircraft for First and C class on a 3 class aircraft for Business.

Note these 15,000 AAdvantage mile "Upgrades are valid to the next cabin of service and limited to a single one-way trip with a maximum of three segments".

i.e. LAX-xSFO-xDFW-EWR would be fine.

Doubtful!

On the standard configuration (domestic configured wide body aircraft) at Qantas - seat pitch is below 40"

On the standard configuration (767-200 transcon domestic configured wide body aircraft) at American Airlines - seat pitch is over 40" SeatGuru Seat Map American Airlines Boeing 767-200 (762)

In fact at AA -

762 in business - seat pitch is almost 50" (2-2-2)
762 in first class - seat pitch is over 60" (2-1-2)

You seriously think Qantas transcon is better :D

From warm nuts served in a bowl to sundaes made to order, beginning to end - premium transcon on AA is leaps and bounds ahead of QF.

AA Business is nothing special except on the routes where they operate the 767 longhaul metal.

The transcons ex LAX are ok but nothing more. Still better than the disgraceful QF Business Class though.

Being of the vertical stature that doesn't require a large seat pitch - I'll be honest and say I don't notice these things as much (other than "can I easily get out of my seat?").

However, on a recent SFO-JFK in AA First on a 3-class 762, I honestly didn't think it was that fantastic IMHO.

Again, seeing as the hard product (in terms of seat pitch) isn't the most important for me, the soft product tends to influence me more.

Also - seat selection is more important to me than published seat pitch. Getting the right seat always give you more ;)

YMMV - but IMO I stick with my original comment that I don't think AA Domestic First (even premium transcon) is much to write home about.

Disclaimer - I will happily take it anyday over a lower-class however ;)

AA has 15 762s that do the Trans con flights. They have 3 classes.
The 763 is used on short haul OS services but also can be used on domestic flights. However they are 2 class planes.
The longhaul aircraft they use is the 777 which occasionally does fly the longer domestic routes. It is 3 class and very much better than any of their 767s.I prefer it to the QF 747s-even in F.

Agree re First on 777 - very good and well above all other AA First.
Also agree that generally better than QF 747 First from the hard product perspective.
