Hi,

Flying SYD-HND-YVR-YYC next week on ANA/AC. Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to check bags through from SYD-HND-YVR if I have a 16hr20m layover in HND? Am I able to stay airside?

Alternatively, anything nearby that folks recommend in terms of restaurants/bars/hotels to spend a few hours?

Thanks!

For that length of time go visit Tokyo. The monorail is quick and efficient and connects to the Yamonate line meaning you have all travel options covered.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Also consider the lino bus - direct from HND to various districts. To Shinjuku for example takes around 60-75 minutes. Fast and easy, dropping you right at Shinjuku main station.

Which flight numbers are you on? If it's same day it will be through-checked.

The only star alliance HND-YVR flight from HND is NH116 at 2155 (and SYD-HND NH880 arr 0530).
Are you on ANA from SYD to YVR? If not, and you're on AC from Japan, you may need to go to NRT.

You can stay airside for a connection like that, but I wouldn't. You have about 10 hours to reasonably spend in Tokyo.

Thanks guys, and great suggestions. Unfortunately I’m going back for the funeral of my Mom, so I’m not really feeling like exploring. I’ll see on the day though. I appreciate the tips about the train, if I do go I definitely don’t want to lug a suitcase behind me.

And yes, I’m going ANA880 connecting to ANA116. Here’s hoping ANA’s nice, I’ve never flown with them...

Cheers

ANA should check the bags through and hold them at the airport. If they don't and you have to collect them, there are a number of storage options at HND so you don't have to drag them around the city. Baggage lockers near the train station ticket machines and manned storage desks on both departure and arrival levels.
